So, I have been letting my bunny have free-range in my room while I was at my house, and I noticed that he has been chewing on the wood trim that is at the bottom of my wall. I can’t let my bunny out now, because even if I am there with him, he will still chew on it. Worse yet, all my walls have this trim so I can’t move him to free-range in another room and even if I tried to put perfume or lemon juice on it so bunny will stay away, the whole room would be enpowered by the over-bearing stench. What can I do about this, so that my bunny will not have access to chewing on the trim but also still have free-range time???

Do you have other chew toys for him to enjoy such as bathroom tissue tubes or tongue depressors? You could also try buying something more fun to chew like some grass mats. It could be that he’s just needing to chew.

If he is a chronic trim chewer though the only thing you could do is to put up some sort of barrier around your wall at floor level to keep him away from it. I’ve seen people use the NIC cube panels and just line the bottom of the wall with them.

If you are somewhat handy, or someone in your house is, you can make a larger wood frame to go around that he IS allowed to chew. Or as Mark suggested, NIC grids going around the room will block that off. You might still want to use some kind of spacer so there is a couple inches between the trim and the grid.

Bunnies see wood trim/baseboards as a chew toy made just for them. It is at their level, it tastes good (I guess?), and the best part is… it is STATIONARY. Wood toys that are light will move when they chew. These typically don’t get used as often. The best wood chew toy in my opinion is a plain, untreated plank of wood… or a homemade hidey box where they can chew the sides.

A vinegar and water solution, sprayed, only smells for a couple of minutes. The smell goes away, but the bunny can detect it on the the trim. You can try that next.

I heard you could rub a cake of plain Dove soap on areas to deter chewing.
Definately agree on the stationary chew items. Mine seem to like that better. So try provide a chew that is like the wall trims. ie, same level, fixed so it doesn’t move etc
