Our 10 week old rabbit Pixel has been fine up until now with chewing, she plays with her rattle, chews the wood and cardboard provided for her, but has now started chewing on her hutch. She’s an indoor rabbit (we have a two story hutch in our living room) and no matter how many times we’ve firmly said no, clapped out hands or nudged her away she continues to do it.

Any ideas how we can stop this behavior?

You can try a commercial product like bitter apple spray (though I’ve heard some bunnies like the taste). I’ve also seen a rabbit specific chew product that’s made with limes – apparently bunnies do not like citrus. I’ve also heard to get some lemon oil and rub that on the area she’s chewing.

There are some other methods, like rubbing ivory soap on it or perfume, but I think citrus smells so much nicer 🙂

Thanks for the advice Elrohwen, we tried the bitter lime spray and it seems to be working, we’ve had to reapply it a few times, but they are chewing the wood a lot less than they were!

Moose chews on his pen when he’s bored and wants out… it could be one of her ways to tell you its Out time.
