Bella always bites her cage. When she isn’t outside she bites it and chews, even some blue paint was chipped! And when she gets her playtime outside of the cage, when i put her back, she chews the bars
again! And her cage has some handles on both sides to secure the enclosure, and she chews them as well. I don’t know what to do, all she seems to want Is to be outside all day. Any advice on how to stop this behaviour?

          Let her out for longer.

Well 6 hours is the bare minimum. Being cooped up is obviously distressing to her so you really need to find time in your schedule.

Will definitely try to let her out more, willing to find some time for extra bonding. Thank you for giving advices, my male just never did this so it’s kinda new to me..

You could also try some logic toys with her for when she’s in her enclosure to keep her mind busy

Hi there! If you want to give her extra space when you are not around, could you place an x-pen around her cage? We have some that are 3ft high. Most buns will not jump over barriers that tall! The x-pens are nice since they give the bun a little extra safe space to call their own when they can’t have free roam

Mile has a x-pen but i left it at my grandma’s house cause i don’t have enough space to store it. Going there today, i’ll pick it up and i’ll have to rearrange some stuff In the storage room first. She’ll definitely enjoy more space.

I thought 3 hours was the bare minimum? I’m new to rabbit care and my rabbit gets around 4 hrs (spread out) and I try to let her out as much as possible.

I believe it’s the house rabbit society that states 4 to 6 hours. Think of it this way, for every hour they’re NOT out, they’re stuck in a cage. So 4 hours out means stuck in a cage for 20 hours.

You could try tying some timothy hay mats or sea grass mats to the cage side and see if she’ll chew at that instead.

Some rabbits will chew at or try dig at barriers, no matter what. As a prey species, they continually try make way through anything that would prevent them from a quick escape if under threat by a predator.

Unfortunately i don’t have any timothy hay mats available at my pet store, maybe i could order it online though. I really do try my best at keeping them out of the cage but my parents don’t like them sniffing their feet and going under the table if they are sitting there. Mile gets 6 hours out of the cage daily and Bella about 8hrs now cause she is energetic. I divided my living room into 2 “rooms” by some tall boxes that i kept and they can’t jump over them. Bella still bites her cage but far less than she did a few days ago. I guess those 2 extra hours made her feel really tired since she jumps In her cage all by herself and get’s comfy, such a sleepyhead. Cuteness overload.
