Neelix is a 6-month-old lop. He doesn’t play with toys or dig boxes much. He might go through a willow-ball a month or so, but prefers to play with his environment. Except that he LOVES chewing on pen grips. We discovered this a few weeks ago when we accidentally dropped a pen near him when he was out. Now he goes in search of them, and when he gets one he grabs it and runs/binkys away all happy to go chew it. He doesn’t eat it, so now we let him chew on some (with close supervision). We think the texture must feel good on his teeth. I want to give him something that will simulate the texture without 1. being a choking/eating hazard and 2. losing all of our pens. Any ideas?

As adorable as this sounds, I would be concerned he might accidentally injest a piece of the rubber. I can’t really think of anything that is rubbery and bunny-safe, though. Does he like chewing cardboard? What about woven hay mats?

My baby liked to nibble on the same sort of thing. people’s shoes, pens, etc. I got an idea when I caught him nibbling on a dog toy. I went down to the petstore and got him a small rubber ball with holes in it so I can stuff it with hay and treats. And I also got a dog toy that is a small rubber tire with a woven rope toy tied through it. He likes the rope now much more than the rubber, and he can only use these toys under supervision, but it gives him some variety from the wooden and woven toys for when he is out, and the added plus that he doesn’t go for my shoes anymore.

Hello Lyss,

try to give him empty toiletpaper rolls, mine love them so much, and they are waste anyhow.
The paper should be not bleached and without perfumes, then there is no problem as far as i know.

You can also try to get them somethin wooden. best small stuff. I was looking in the Kids toysarea sometimes. the prices are high but the quality also.
There are a lot more controls as for animaltoys.
You can also look up here. Maybe you ca find something you like there.

Cardboard boxes with no sticky tape on or glue, toilet rolls with bunny safe food hidden inside is a great thing for bunny.

Plastic can be unsafe for bunny’s delicate tummy too, I make sure all toys are from the pet shop, there is a wood not safe for a bunny, is it pine wood? Someone here would know.
