So…..I bought some dark unsweetened cherries and gave small pieces to each of my buns. BUT then panicked because I realized that I have never really heard anyone say if Cherries are safe for bunnies to have as occassional treats.

I looked here on BB and then on the HRS site and Cherries are not listed. But then I don’t see anything saying they are toxic or anything either. Some nut on yahoo.com questions said they were ok but you can never trust those people.

I gave the Cherries to them last night and they just loved them! Even licked my fingers. They are just fine today but does anyone know anything about Cherries???

        HELP!

i think bunnytowne once posted that her bunny Cotton’s fave is cherries… i give them too when they’re in seasoon. Just sparingly for they’re a high sugar treat. they’re not poisonous to rabbits. Make sure though there are no pits!

Oh good. Im glad someone else has given them. It is strange though that some exotic fruit would make the fruit lists on BB and HRS sites but not Cherries?

Yeah I’ve given them too, Leroy goes crazy for any fruit, but ESPECIALLY fresh cherries. Usually I limit him to a half cherry per day, 3 times per week max because they are so high in sugar, and also because Leroy likes to run away and hide to eat when I give him an especially yummy snack, and the cherry juice stains my carpet and his lips!!

              ETA: no pits!

We’ve had discussions about cherries before and it is weird they’re not listed… they are fine, but of course no pits and no stems.

Hmm, I had never thought of cherries before! My bunnies are very into their routines when it comes to treats. Only Amelia really tries new stuff, and thats just because she will eat whatever is in my hand before even thinking about it…even if it isn’t food…

                      Moo-

I bought some frozen unsweetened dark cherries-they seemed big and were pitted. I cut them up in 1/4″ so one cherry split between 4 buns. They loved them-rarely do all the buns love anything the same as raisins and naners. Even Cooper licked my fingers clean! lol

Ok, I found a couple pictures of Leroy’s “lipstick!”

This one is out of focus and Leroy’s head looks like it’s a funny shape, but it was the only one I have of his lips after eating a cherry

Leroy is eating a strawberry here, but it turned his lips red too

Aww, thanks, you guys. Leroy and I love you too! I know, that last picture is one of my favorites

Anyway, back to the topic ( I love how off topic we get sometimes!)  I think we’ve all concluded cherries are a safe and DELISH treat.
