my sister is chasing around our bunny Shumi. She just hates shumi because shumi isn’t spayed yet so she sometimes humps bubby. Now she doesn;t but my sister still thinks she is ” ugly”….. Anyways my sister was chasing shumi around the house like crazy. she said she does it for fun and it literally shakes the house and sometimes scares me. a lot of these evil abuse to my bunnies happen so often that i can’t take control of my sister. she uses a stuffed bear and laughs that the bunny is scared of it just because my sister was chasing shumi so much… i feel really useless and my sister does no that it can damage the bunny’s trust between us. i always explain it to her but next day.. FORGET. My sister uses a creepy stuffed cat that meows to creep my bunnies out. She aggressively chases the bunnies and I feel soo bad for them. My sister doesn’t feel guilty at all for torturing my bunnies. after that, when i get really pissed off my sister pretends to be all nice and gives my bunnies treat. This happens so often my bunnies don’t know whether to love us or not..just a few minutes ago my sister was running so fast on the hardwood floor that she fell.. Hahaha. it was hilarious i don’t feel bad for her for all she done to my bunnies. Now she says she feels like she just broke her leg. well guess what ? my bunnies been thru so much more. My sister was pretending to thump with our bunny Bubby in the backyard cuz he was so frightened. instead, bubby ran so fast that Ivy stepped on his head. His teeth turned misplaced and the vet made him eat baby food for weeks. Then i think my sister made both bunnies nose bleed and added cornstarch to stop it.. Ugh!!! I will never bring my bunnies back to the shelter because i need to change other peoples attitude, despite that im the youngest. I want to keep my bunnies forever. But this is all so crazy and I want my future bunnies to have awesome lives since Im just a kid… I don’t want to cause serious issues or get a counselor or something crazy. most of the time no one does any thing crazy to my bunnies. only when my sister got nothing better to do she chases them or scares them…
Honestly, if I were you I would think about rehoming the bunnies. Having a life like that isn’t much of a life. You may treat them well but obviously no one else does, and it’s very dangerous. Specially if she stepped on their heads and messed up their teeth making them eat only baby food for a few weeks. It maybe hard for you to rehome them but it would be the best for them. Maybe find a friend to take them or someone who will allow you to still see them? It’s just not safe for them there and honestly not fair for them. You maybe trying to change their minds about the bunnies but if you tried everything and they still won’t accept and respect the bunnies, then there is no way getting through to them and in the long run can seriously injure the buns even more.
Bunnies are living breathing animals, they scare easily, they feel pain. It’s not fair for them to go through all of that.
And your parents? What do they do when this happens? Do you tell them?
How old is your sister and do you have a convenient place to hide her Body !!!!!!!!!
But seriously, as BB said. What are your parents doing? If you cannot stop the psychopath that is your sister you need to make the bunnies safe and find them a new home. Given your sisters behavior I’d also be concerned for any small children in the area. I hope she doesn’t babysit. Your parents need to know what is going on, I am assuming they had to pay the vet bills. They should also be concerned about your sisters abhorrent behavior.
From what Bunnehs has written in other threads, her parents hate them too, picking them up by the ears, bum, whatever is convenient, tossing them around..
I would give them up too. It isn’t fair to them to keep them in that enviroment. By doing so, you are pretty much saying its okay for them to have that kind of treatment.
WTH! I’m sorry but this is borderline animal abuse-“accidently stepped on his head”!!?? How old are you and how old is your sister? Poor little bunnies – I would definitley re-home them… I’m not sure about anyone else, but reading this just ruined my morning…
I would take them back to the shelter. I think what your family is doing to them is absolutely abuse. I know you want to keep them and take care of them, but you can’t control what your family does and what they’re doing is abuse.
I feel bad for you because I can tell you want what is best for your bunnies but if your parent’s aren’t committed to taking care of them and it’s their ultimate responsibility as the adults in the household, and your sister abuses them, perhaps you should consider taking them back to the shelter. I know it would hurt you to do this, but I think you’d feel worse if something awful happened to one of them.
You can still change people’s attitudes but you don’t need to risk them harming your rabbits. Better to change their attitudes before you get another animal not while you have one.
Please keep us updated on what you decide.
You need to rehome those bunnies. Your sentimentality towards them isn’t worth endangering their lives. Try again when you’re older and have your own place, where you can insure that they are well cared for and will have the backbone to stand for them if/when they need it.
Please think about your bunnies, I know you love them and it would be sad to give them away but they are being abused. Until you are old enough and living your own I would recommend that you don’t own any pets. One day they are going to end up seriously injured. They are not safe. Think of how poor and helpless they are, they just want to be loved and cared for, but your family is torturing them and they can’t do anything about it. Please, please consider this, you love them, you want what’s best for them, right?
I agree with everyone else here. Your poor bunnies are not safe and they need to go to another home. It sounds like it’s only a matter of time before they are severely injured, or worse. And they are already being tramatized by your family. That is no way for a sensitive little animal to live.
I feel very sorry for you to be in such a situation. I know that you love them and want them with you, but the best way to show your love for them is to get them out of that abusive household.
Thanks guyss i’ll keep an update on what the people are doing…. today was okay! shelter’s full in my area!! do you think my sis and me are overreacting when my mom gets close to our bunnies and tries to carry it, we totally freak out!
Does the shelter have any foster programs? I am scared to death for your bunnies
It is not an ideal environment for your bunnies. They are helpless and rely on you and your family, but the mistreatment by your sister and parents is unacceptable. Your mother shouldn’t even be trying to hold the bunnies – they aren’t meant to be held and cuddled as they are prey animals ![]()
Hang On, There’s a huge inconsistency here. According to this post your Sister worries when your Mother is near the bunnies.
So exactly who is the problem. I am concerned now in general.
Speak to your friends and explain what is happening one of them may have compassionate parents who will take the Bunnies until a permanent place can be found.
Next, if your Sister is mistreating the bunnies WHY is she freaked out when your Mother tries to hold them ? I thought you said she hated them and enjoyed seeing them tormented.
You need to sort this kiddo and NOW not LATER. I recommend you request a family meeting. Explain to them what the problem is and what is concerning you. Direct them to the site if necessary they may be more influenced when they see the comments by people who have happy healthy bunnies.
But you need to get your story straight and clear.
WHAT?! Why are you letting this go on? I have seen post from a while ago and they were doing the exact thing.D: this is SICK!! KI keep my bun in the sunroom/porch and noone really bothers them. But really she stepped on it’s head WTH?! I mean if your parents are mean to them, why do they pay the vet bill? How old are you-and the ones mistreating them? Hope you can figure this out…

Hi Beka, Good point…. I can see the reasoning in that.
