Charlie was seen by a new vet today as I was not satisfied with her first saying she has chronic allergies. Especially after her culture results showed actinobacillus. She had a 14 day course of Zeniquin and still symptomatic. He did not extend Zeniquin saying it’s allergies.

I know I’ve posted a lot on this topic last 6 months and all the antibiotics she’s taken. We also had a mold issue in house that for awhile vet thought could have caused allergy issue.

I took a ton of documentation, pictures and her culture results to new vet. I even had a video from this morning of her sneezing and snot.

He said this is NOT allergies. I never believe she had allergies, but because of the mold we once had, I thought maybe her first vet was right. And since it comes and goes…well maybe.

New vet said she has CHRONIC SNUFFLES.  He said that any of the antibiotics she was on should have taken care of it. But the course of action should have been to extend once one was working. I never did think  she was on any long enough, but her first vet would not continue any long term other than the very first antibiotic she had 6 months ago was 21 days.

He explained that it’s been in there a while now and could be hard to dislodge. He has a call in to the place that ran her culture to talk directly to the exotic specialist about what the best course of action to take would be.

He mentioned a possible nasal flush and flushing with antibiotic. That sounds scary to me. We also talked about nebulizer good with antibiotics. And long term antibiotic care with concern for her gut health.

I wish I would have changed vets sooner now. If it wasn’t for the mold issue which had left me questioning maybe he was right about allergies….and I was so relieved when we did the culture and put her on Zeniquin. Then so frustrated with him when she still was doing the same old thing and he said allergies.

This has been such a roller coaster ride. I feel guilty I didn’t switch vets sooner. So confusing when she never showed symptoms when at vets. She didn’t today, but I had the video. He said she’s clear now but I’m sure she will be snotty later.

He said her presentation is classic.

I thought I was doing enough and right by her. I’ve even been sifting dust of her pellets. For nothing.

I am concerned about her and the cost too. I’m upset with myself.

Please don’t feel bad, you’ve done so much to try and help her get better. Finding a good vet is hard. I’ve been through more than I care to count. It sounds like your new vet is getting to the bottom of it, that’s the important thing. 🙂  I hope she can start her treatment soon.

Don’t beat yourself up! It’s easy to trust a professional and in the medical field. I had a similar thing (but much more serious) issue with a cat and ended up not making it because of a poor diagnosis. And I knew better the whole time but did not try a different vet until too late. We’re only human and so are doctors. Not all may have specific experience needed for every situation. Sometimes you have to go through something like this to realize. You are doing great by your bunny 🙂

I’m so glad you got a second opinion! It’s hard when you love your animal and want the best for them but aren’t getting the answers you need. Now you know and you can make decisions with better information.

@Susanne I’m sorry to hear about your kitty. 😥  Both of ours came within an inch of death with intussusceptions. They only survived because our vet is incredibly skilled and went above and beyond to save them. Some vets are amazing, others not so much.
