Sorry for all the questions, but cage cleaning time is coming up tomorrow, the babies will only be a day and a half old.  How do I clean the cage without disturbing mom and babies.  Just clean the area that the babies are not in as mom most likely isn’t using the baby area as a toilet.  Or clean half then move everyone over into the clean half and then clean the other half?

Bear with me new bunny friends, I am oh so new to this whole bunny ownership thing.

is the mom normally litterbox trained? you could just clean the litterbox, or the potty area without disturbing the corner where the babies are…

she has so far refused to litterbox train…she does generally go in one corner of the cage, but as soon as we put a litterbox there she goes to another one. Tips on litterbox training would be great too! We haven’t had them long and they are my first bunnies ever.

oh… well i’d wait a bit longer… she might have rejected the litterbox b/c she was expecting and frankly, didn’t care to go in the box… lol.

when you littertrain, you can only have litter in the box, the rest of the cage needs to have no litter (it’s too confusing to have it both places) so since she’s using the litter now as nesting material, i’d wait and just continue to scoop out the soiled parts… you can begin littertraining when the babies get older and are no longer needing a nest…

I emailed a breeder I know on this exact subject. She said to just give them a week then worry about cleaning; She’s likely keeping the baby area very clean herself, so you could tidy a little, maybe scoop some poops out with a papertowel or change the litter pan but don’t do any big disruptions for at least a week

Wish they’d have told us they were going to have babies then we could have cleaned first!!!
