I need some advice because this constant cleaning is driving me nuts!!!!

Bindi has a cube condo one level house. He has a litter box that he has always used for years, since I’ve had him. He’s always been a stray poop kinda guy, leaving poos in front of his house and hay. That’s never been a big deal. He never peed outside the litter box. He eats his hay out of a plastic bin (a stackable tray sort of bin I bought at Walmart) that I attached to the bars . He sits in it while he eats hay. He normally would leave a few poos in the bin. Also not a big deal. Until recently…

He starting leaving more and more poos in there. Most of you know that he just got over a bad ear infection. We went to the vet last Tuesday and got the “all clear” but he’s been acting strange since then. Just not himself. A bit depressed. Eating but not super excited for food and not running during run time, just sitting on the couch. He’s actually out with me right now and I saw some small binkies so he may be coming around. Anyway, his potty habits have gotten very bad of late!!! He now doesn’t poop in the litter box at all, just in the hay bin and has taken to peeing only in the bin too. Which creates a big mess all over his cage because he walks in it, and needs foot washes after. Also, the hay gets full of pee so he won’t eat it so I have to empty and wipe the mess about 5 times a day. Not to mention all the hay that wastes. He’s still eating and pooping, peeing his normal amount.

Any advice? How do I get him back on the potty????

I think the easiest solution would be to eliminate the hay bin and put his hay in his litterbox, or in a rack near his litterbox.  I’ve always been told buns like to eat like they’re doing their business, so that may be why he’s pooping in there.

Zeus is super-duper about his litter habits, BUT I also am sure to not give him any places outside his litterbox that would look appeasing to poop in!

I would definitely move the hay to the litter box, and only there. I learned that after leaving a small pile in the middle of the pen one day and then everybun though it was ok to pee and poo there. I hope that will adjust his habits back to the litter box!

Can you get hold of straw where you are? You could try a layer of straw in his litter box then the good hay at one end so not so much is wasted.

Agreed with mac. Hay = toilet. Maybe you can use some of your horse hay for his litterbox so you can be generous with it.

Mimzy has slightly changed his habits too…not heavily, but enough that I notice. Usually because I am not up early enough for His Majesty to clean his box and lately, he seems to want it clean EVERY time he goes…. 0_o That and the 24 hr daylight has totally thrown his routine out of whack.
Could this have something to do with the other stresses going on right now? Does he miss Nefera? Or maybe he just doesn’t feel ‘right’ to himself without an ear infection? 0_o
((((((((((((((((proper potty vibes for Bindi)))))))))))))))))) Silly loppies. They sure like making more work for us, huh, LPT? *shakes head*

I’m pretty sure that’s Bindi’s main goal in life!!

I don’t know how you do 24 hours of daylight!!! I think I would become a zombie!!!

When I first got here it was terrible. I’ve gotten used to it though. Lots of dark coverings on the windows. ^_^ And afternoon naps.
