Is it common for adding another bunny to a bond to not work? Has anyone had an experience of this working out or not?

There will experiences of trios working and not working– just like with bonding two rabbits, it comes down to personality dynamics, and with a trio, that can statistically be harder since you have more rabbits that need to try and work stuff out. Trio bonding is typically “harder” because it can be less formulaic than duo bonding. You can see here for some information: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Bonding_rabbits_together#Bonding_3.2B_rabbits

How to setup for the highest chance of success in a trio is the same as with a pair: try speed dating, spend time in pre-bonding, take it slow, and be patient.
