I went to a vet last month because my vet was not available for a while. Chacha has been shaking her head and itching her right ear like crazy – it tends to happen after I have given her pets for long periods of time.
After seeing several vets that could not find the cause of it – I finally have an answer.
Chacha got an ear culture test done. It came back – as an external ear yeast infection
I told the vet all of her history up until now – when it began in June/July and how many times she was put on Baytril for it. The medication helped, but the symptoms came back.
The vet wanted to rule out potential illnesses like pastrella, so she did an ear test.
She gave me medicine, something that IS Baytril, but with something else added onto the name. It is ear drops that I put into Chacha’s ear and massage the base of the ear after I administer the drops. The vet wants to get the yeast cleared up and take another look into her ear, so I scheduled a follow up on Friday November 19th.
I am hoping that it is just the yeast.
The vet was really really thorough with me – which impressed me! She made sure I had all of my questions answered and was very very patient. She said a lot of rabbits pass down bacteria from one another, whether it is from mother to child or if the rabbit has been with other rabbits.
The vet has been working with dogs, cats, and rabbits for 14 years. She especially loves rabbits and sees ’em weekly
She complimented Chacha on her pretty coloring. She said she will be calling me within the week or so to see how Chacha is doing, otherwise, I will see her in 2 weeks!
I am very satisifed with this vet!
Here are some photos that I took of Chacha while the vet was examining the culture swab:
(She let her wonder around the exam room)
