So I come to my room and I find–lo and behold– that one of my rabbits, Thomas, somehow pulled a cereal bar from who knows where, opened it up, and munched on approx. 1/3 of the bar! D= He seems to be okay, munching happily on his hay…

I’m keeping an eye on him, of course, but is there anything to be specifically worried for? It’s a special k cereal bar, with bits of chocolate… (nutritional info )

Oy, this bunny! I’ve actually caught him rooting through my room’s garbage, but never thought he’d OPEN a closed plastic wrap like this! >.< Usually, his favourite no-no snacks are textbooks.

They are like furry sea gulls I swear!

They only thing I can think to do in situations like this is monitor them and get them on hay and water diet. The hay should help things move through their systems quicker.

I would also monitor him. He may get some sludgebutt or diarrhea, but just keep an eye on him to make sure he’s eating and drinking. I did a search on rabbits and chocolate and I couldn’t find anything concrete. Main consensus is that it could be toxic in high amounts and can definitely mess up the GI tract as with all sugary treats. And cocoa is down on the list of ingredients, so it shouldn’t contain much. It’s a good sign that he’s eating, so again, I’d just keep an eye on him. I would say if he doesn’t have any issues today, he should be fine.

Mine got into the garbage and got a pack of strawberry bubble gum and ate it. I picked Eddie up and he had gum stuck to his chin. LOL The vet said that they could either have diarrhea or harder poop. I don’t think either one happened and they were fine. Well, I definitely didn’t see any diarrhea anywhere.

JG, that is quote of the year on BB!  LOL. Oh, we should do a thread on the greatest quotes in here.

Anyhow, it is so true. Bunbun, I wouldn’t worry that much. Somehow bunnies live the most hazardous life and they always pull through: mine have eaten tons of tinfoil (no, don’t leave it in the bunny room in order to cover up their favourite pee spots), enjoyed tabasco (Molly went straight for that bottle and wouldn’t let it go), oh and just tons of human food they have stolen off the table. And don’t forget about the number of cords that are plugged in that they have chewed through.

But do they keep an eye on her to be on the safe side. Only consequences I have noticed when the bunnies eat sweets are that they get hyperactive for a while.

It’s really important to keep these tempting goodies out of their reach. Cute as it is, a rabbit can get gravely ill from ingesting the wrong foods. Some foods can expand in their stmachs such as bread and cause serious blockages.
