        Hello!

While I am not new to rabbits I am new to having my bun indoors. I have done tons of research and I think that the grid panel cages will fit my family the best. Even though buying a premade rabbit cage from my local pet store would be much, much easier.. They are nearly a 100 and not much bigger than what she is in now.

The space I am looking to put the new cage in is next to my television stand in my living room. I would love for her cage to be at least two floors but I dont want it too big that it looks out of place. I know I would need something like coroplast for the bottom but I don’t know where I would buy it from nor do I know where to buy the grids from. I would not mind shipping any of the materials.

How many grids would I need, where would I get them, and how would I get the coroplast? Does this even sound like a good idea to pursue?

        Thank you in advance.

You can get the grids at many places. I get mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. I would start with 2 boxes. Of course, it all depends on how big you’d like to make your cage. Having a little extra is always good too for blocking off areas that bun isn’t allowed. You can get coroplast at Home Depot, but you’re not just limited to coroplast as flooring. You could use certain plywood covered with linoleum or low pyle carpeting. Whatever works for you and your bun. C&C cages are the best in my opinion. You can customize it however you’d like, you can always add on, the possibilities are almost endless. Hope this helps!!

The grids you can get anywhere really-they are sold as book shelves. So you check the storage/home oranization section of walmart, home depot, even the dollar store

Coroplast you get in a home reno place, near the drywall, and wood paneling section. Most clerks will not know what it is, but if you ask for sheets of sign board sometimes they’ll understand. Or describe it as plastic cardboard.

I just built one of these cages for my bunny in May and LOVE IT!!! I followed the plans on rabbitcondo.com but changed a few things afterwards to suit our needs. The best piece of advice I can give you is to not use zip ties. I built mine with them initially and hated the look and even though I cut the ends down so they were almost flush some of them were still sharp. Then my husband went to a store that sells supplies for commercial fishermen and found clips that you would use to make your own lobster pot. They are really just large J Clips. He spent $15 on the pliers and $6 on the clips. They are so much more secure than the zip ties, safer for the bunny and look a million times better.

Also, most of the blogs I found said that these could be made for under $100, I spent closer to $200. I did use a plywood base and spent a little extra on really good casters. Either way it was worth every penny. My bunny loves it and me and the boys had fun building it.

I’m trying to find something to keep the doors closed. I have to put like 5 or 6 binder clips. It’s so annoying because I have to take them off every time, does anyone have any suggestions?

We use C clips (or snap clips) sold at Home Depot to keep ours closed. They are easy to open/close and rest neatly on the cage while it is open so you don’t have to remember where you set them down, bunny deciding they are a toy. Depending on the type you get, they are $2-$5 a piece, but last forever.

                    Thanks Sara.

                    What do they look like?

Please ignore the blurry bunny that came to beg for treats.

Not sure where the bowls came from, they were given to us with Bunny, but likely PETsMART. They rotate on the bases so that part stays fixed to the cage while the bowl itself can be picked up to clean/fill/etc.
