I’ve been experimenting with CBD oil with Kali for the last few weeks and wanted to share my experiences.

Background: Kali is a mostly happy mini-rex/lionhead mix. She’s just over 10 months old, and is spayed. She’s into EVERYTHING and sometimes it seems like she can escape/get into anything. She gets over things that Whisky (who was a couple pounds larger) never even dreamed of trying to jump/climb over.

But she also has what I can best describe as panic attacks. Even her vet mentioned that she’s very nervous. Basically, when she gets scared by something, rather than just running away and hiding for a few minutes or maybe a half hour, she completely freaks and will hide for hours. I’ve held her during these times and it feels like her little heart is going to pound right out of her chest. It’s actually really scared me a couple of times, as I was afraid she was going to have a heart attack.

So, after reading everything I could find about CBD and rabbits (which, granted, isn’t a whole lot), I was satisfied that it wasn’t toxic and I decided to try her out on CBD oil specifically for pets (I had it for my dog, who passed back in August). Since she’s only about 3 pounds, I decided one drop (which is .41mg) once a day in her food would be the place to start.

Within a couple days, I noticed a big difference. She still gets scared and acts like a “normal” bunny, but she doesn’t have those complete meltdown/freakouts. I kept a very close eye on her pooping habits, water intake, etc. during the first couple of weeks and saw no difference. She’s just generally a happier, less freaked out bunny. She’s due for a vet checkup next month (she has dental issues, so I get her teeth checked roughly every 6 months), so I’ll discuss it with her vet and see if there’s any additional tests she wants to do to make sure it’s not causing any hidden problems (I’ll update if necessary).

Since CBD is such a new thing, especially with pets, I just wanted to share my experiences!

Thank you for sharing! I have given CBD drops to my dog a few times because she has a back problem. It could potentially be very useful for pets, so it’s very interesting to hear about!
