Oh good grief! No sooner do I put my lovely large straw mat that I just bought from BinkyBunny.com into the cage, than Mimzy has his teeth in it! 0.0 So I have to ask…the fiber strings at the edges and the material these mats are made of…they are bunny-safe and edible…yes?

We are awaiting with bated breath…and anxious toofies!

Yes, absolutely safe. It’s a raffia sisal type of twine. And it’s in short pieces at each end.
I actually use those straw mats to weave within the bars of their pen because they love to chew on it that way. Well, at least the mat is something she loves to chew on. Many people wish their bunnies would find something other than their furniture that could occupy their bunnies attention, so look at the positive. A mat doubles as a toy.

i think most bunnies greatly enjoy nibbling on those mats all of the maize and seagrass mats in our house are bunny enhanced.

I’ve stocked up on those mats on purpose to be able to train a new bunny to chew them instead of furniture/floors. I plan to line the cage and carpets and whip them out near any tasty looking parts of the home. They’re much easier to replace.

oh gee I put them on the botton of the cage and they get peed and pood on. ok I will stick it to the side of the cage when I get some then. and put them in the cardboard boxes too oh a funny I had one from pet store and my bun loves to chew them up. she got her foot tangled in it she wouldn’t move was sitting there in fear and I thought whats this I open her door she runs around with this thing chasing her. I took her out gently and untangled her she was so relieved oh wow this human got it off. next day same thing but when I opened her door she waited for me and didn’t struggle when I got it off that time I cut it in half and she didnt’ get tangled again. never thought to stick it to the side of the cage tho. duh. that will work better for her so she don’t have this tie on thing chasing her.

i have the small mat.  i love it, and Meadow adores it.  she took to chewing on it pretty quickly too, it’s cute, she gets a mouth full and then throws it up.  looks like she’s shaking the dirt off a rug or something.

I agree w/ the cheaper to replace mentality.  Leo loves picking about the weaving of his rag rugs.  He doesn’t eat the weaves, he just enjoys pulling them apart.  I figure w/ a couple of bucks, that’s better than my furniture, carpet, or curtains.  They also LOVE all their binky willow products (willow tent & tunnel).  As a matter of fact we call the tunnel…the “chunnel of bunny love” b/c it is such a fav.  They do bite on the edges of the willow, which is fine that’s why I get the bunny safe willow.  When I got the hay basket, I thought “Wow, how cute”!  W/ that they bit right into the edges….so cute

Hmmm…never thought of stringing them through the cage bars. Kinda gives the pen a bit of a ‘tiki room’ look! lolz. Sadly, Mimzy’s pen’s bars are too short in between to handle the large mat, but I am going to have to order more of them anyway, seeing as how he’s going right through it. Maybe the smaller ones would fit. ^^ Cool idea!

Pepper has recently decided that she likes to demolish rag rugs.  She’s not eating anything that I can figure out – just taking them apart.  I think she’s playing “where does THAT go and does it come off?”

I completely agree that its very interesting watching him pick apart the rag rugs…its like he totally has a method to his madness.

I read somewhere (was it here?) that rabbits actually like ongoing projects. like digging a tunnel. He probably DOES have a method to picking apart the rugs. It also said that they remember their projects and will return to it to pick up where they left off the next day.

lolz…Kinda hard for Mim not to remember where he left off on the straw mat…seeing as it has a huge HOLE where his toofies have been! ^^ But Pam, I totally know what you mean.
I had to laugh when, after taking Mimzy to the vet a second time to make sure he was eating right, she told me to “give him a job.” She wanted me to pick up a load of hay bales and make a maze for him to chew through. (Like I have room for that in my house!) But it was the funniest thing…I kept hearing her say ‘give him a job.’
Do I have to give him a time clock and a punch card too? ^^ Are bunnies eligible for workman’s comp and retirement benefits? XD Oh there are just SO many places I could go with this! rofl!

I can just see him in the little hard hat and orange vest…whistling cat calls at the lady bunnies binkiying by… >_<

Are you kidding? Mim is strictly salaried! You know, long lunches, expensive taste, perks like having his own slave.

I am still laughing from your reply. Thanks, I needed that.

(Oh, and if bunnies had done the Big Dig in Boston it would have finished about 2 years sooner.)
