Catching Snuffles Early

Hi all,

Last night I noticed my boy Dexter (mini rex) suddenly had a wet nose with a bit of clear discharge and with a tiny amount of white discharge just under his nose. And he was cleaning it quite a bit. I stayed up monitoring him, and he was still eating, asking for pats and roaming around (but not with as much energy as usual, it might have been a lazy night for him). I am really worried if that’s an early sign of snuffles, particularly because I lost my boy Wilfred over a year ago to a respiratory infection. I tried to listen to his breathing, I think it sounds ok, he’s not sneezing and his eyes don’t seem to be watery.

I know it sounds so vague right now, and I know it might have been just dusty hay, but I wanted to ask you guys if you have similar experiences. Does snuffles have to include one or all symptoms of sneezing, watery eyes and louder breathing? Can the discharge be intermittent (this morning it’s less wet), or with snuffles is there constant discharge? Does it progress quickly?

The same thing happened to my bun. He had clear discharge for about a week, but then it slowly subsided. It might just be dusty hay or something like that, but if it escalates a trip to the vet would be good.
