My cat keeps peeing in my rabbits litter box inside the house. How do I stop this? I’ve caught my cat peeing in Stitch litter box twice. Anybody have advise on how to stop this behavior?

Is your cat’s litter box clean? If you don’t clean it daily, that might be part of the problem.

If you add a litter box screen and/or a layer of hay on top of the bunny litter that should also deter him.

Yes, my cats litter box gets cleaned daily. I also use aspen shavings for the litter with a grid on top. Yet, she still used stitch litter box to urinate in it.

Hmmmm, with my cat I try to discourage him from going into the buns area (mostly with a squirt bottle…). He will occasionally go in to try to eat some hay or sleep in there, but usually leaves the litter box alone as long as there is hay on top.

Ah, a pity the screen/grid is not enough to deter her. Does she have a tendency to use the hay to cover her pee after she goes?

I don’t put any hay in the litter box. It’s just the aspen shavings and the grid on top. The times I did catch her urinating in the rabbit litter box I told her no and she would just run off.

My cat uses the rabbit box too, not all the time which totally pisses me off.  I constantly add fresh hay to it, so he uses that to cover anything he does, and the rabbit only sits in this one little corner of this ridiculously large under-the-bed storage box for a litter box, so at least he’s not getting in the mess.  I also use aspen litter.  And my stupid cat will use the rabbit box, then jump out and run over to his litterbox and use that too.

My cat won’t bother the bunny box anymore since I put a screen on top because he can’t dig in the litter. It’s too bad it doesn’t work with your kitty, I guess some don’t care so much about digging/burying.

Does you cat have multiple boxes? Some cats are incredibly picky about their box and it might help to have two for the cat if you don’t. You might also try a different litter in the second box to see if the cat prefers it. If you are using scented cat litter try unscented, you can also try crystals, paper, wheat litter.

Would there be something she won’t walk on but wouldn’t bother  Stitch? I’m thinking something you could put around the box…

Or maybe you could rub some orange peel on the floor around the box? My only concern with doing that is Stitch might think he needs to start marking where the new smell is. 😐

Hi to @manic_muncher too! I feel like I haven’t seen you on here for years!

The only thing I can think of is maybe using one of those pet store “rabbit cages” (way too small for any animal) if you have an old one. Kind of expensive to buy a new one. You can use it as a litter box. One that has the metal cage top and the plastic bin bottom. Maybe the cat won’t want to go in there? Or you could make it so the opening is too small for the cat to get in.

maybe multiple litter boxes or when your cat’s poos/wees put it in the cat’s litter box I know disgusting but might work or try a spray bottle

maybe your cat doesn’t like the litter in her litter box
