My cat was diagnosed with roundworms and tapeworms Friday. He’s on treatment for it, and I started prevention meds yesterday too (*sigh* vet never mentioned prevention meds when I got him a few months ago, & I didn’t think about it). I didn’t think to ask the vet if I should give my rabbits anything, and they’re closed til Tuesday. And since they’re a little flaky I would appreciate hearing from others’ experiences. Anyone else that has been through something similar, did you get your rabbits treated too? Either treat for possible worms, or prevention meds like Revolution? If they should be treated I want to, but I also don’t want to go overboard.
My rabbits are contained to a penned in area, they don’t free roam and cat can’t get in there. With the RHDV2 in the US (though I’m not in a currently affected area) I had already started getting in the habit of basic precautions of washing hands before/after feeding and cleaning the rabbits, and wearing separate shoes when I go in their pen (they stay on top of the pen when I’m not in there, don’t touch the floor anywhere else.) I’ve been checking their poops and litter for any signs of worms and haven’t seen anything, but I know that’s not fool proof. I’m trying to clean everything best I can, and replacing cheaper/easy stuff like bedding and blankets, but from what I understand roundworm eggs are practically indestructible short of flamethrower or boiling everything in sight which just isn’t practical.
