My rabbit was castrated 11 days ago and I just noticed some wounds on his testicles (I uploaded a picture) and on one of his testicles I can see a pulled thread, but not completely, it looks like a loop (The other picture, but it’s barely visible, the thread is purple-ish color).
Should I put a cone on his head? Should I bring him to the vet?
The vet said that he might be itchy down there 3-4 days after surgery so I’ve been checking him and it all seemed okay until today.
I’m also not sure when is he cleaning himself or when is he biting the stitches..
How long do we even have to wait for him to recover completely? Because he acts completely normal and is active as usual.

At 11 days post op he should be basically healed at this point. My vet had my bunnies restricted for 14 days because it may take two weeks. Your picture didn’t attach though so it’s hard to tell what might be going on.

I wouldn’t be too worried about the stitches. They’ve basically done their job at this point. Of course there could be a concern based on the look of the sore. Can you try the picture again?

            Here are the pictures:

(New user so I’m still figuring this site out)

The first one is the thread (also a few red spots??)

And this one is of the wound, which I don’t know if he did or what happened

            Should I be worried?

It’s really hard to tell from the pictures. Is the sore in the second picture scab like or does it look more like an ulceration? It almost looks like it has hair stuck in it and needs cleaned. Does it have a bad smell or any discharge from it?

I’ve never looked too closely at Wick’s area when he was recovering. I mainly checked for swelling and such. That being said, it may be worth sending these photos to your vet to see if this is indeed normal. It looks “less neat” than Wicks, but that could be a lot of variables, like photo quality and your rabbit’s fur.

If you find there’s swelling, discharge, and/or an odor, as Doodle says, those are serious signs that something has hindered the healing process and the rabbit should see a vet.

I think it’s great that you’re being attentive to detail at the site.

It’s definitely a scab, it’s hard and there is no discharge. I just took a closer look and the gray thing in the picture isn’t actually hair, it’s a black part of the wound (which looks gray because of the flash photo).
