In what way can castration on male rabbits change there temperament. I realise that it stops them spraying, but in what length of time from the actual operation do they change in temperament, and do they actually become nicer.
The reason I ask is I have 2 males together which are bonded btothers, both been castrated, one is a lovely temperament, and doesn’t mind being picked up and stroked now and loosing his timidity. The other male can be really bouncy, frisky and jumpy and also tries to bite me on alot of occasions when I’ve not been looking and just been cleaning out there hutch. I just hope in time he gets better as he looses his hormones etc.

How long have you had them? How long have they been neutered? Males can usually go through hormonal spikes for the first 1-2 months then they mellow out a bit after. If you’ve had them less than a year, be patient. It can take some bunnies a while to learn to relax and trust their humans. It could also just simply be his personality. Some bunnies are more outgoing and chill than other bunnies. I have one boy that loves to be loved on like crazy and will always find a way to be pet and cuddled. I have another boy that’s very much an introverted but he’s also pretty spunky, he rarely accepts pets and he’s usually found jumping anywhere his paws will take him. You might have to accept that it’s his personality.

Some things you can do to alleviate stress for yourself, clean the hutch when he’s not in it. He seems to be territorial of the hutch, so if you clean it when he’s not in it or near it, you won’t get nipped. Go back to basics. Pretend is the first few weeks you’ve had him. Sit on the floor and don’t immediately pet him. Just let him explore you and learn to feel safe around you. After a while you can attempt to pet him, but don’t force it or it’ll only reinforce the fear. As for not being jumpy, you can learn to approach him more quietly and speak more softly. It sounds silly but it can work wonders with a jumpy bun.

Cheers for that as there’s some very good points there. Thanks again
