Tigerlily is really really furry, and today i noticed she was kind of stinky! Like an old onion type smell. So i figured it was her scent glands, so i followed the directions on the Binky Bunny page, i swabbed the area i thought was the slits and some yellowy / brown color and smell came off. I lightly swabbed until the swabs came out clear. Are the slits right next to her private area? She is still smelly!

Yes they are. I know with Felony I kind of have to gently work them open. His are like a half an inch long on both sides. Also, maybe you its his fur on his bum area. I know if i’m not careful to clean Fel’s litterbox enough he’ll sit in it and his feet and bum absorb that pee smell… Maybe a spot wash of his booty and feet will solve the problem

Yep you found them all right! I liken the odor to skunk though.

              Addy’s an overpowering citrusy fellow. =P I’ll admit, I haven’t been around Bella’s yet.

But yeah, I don’t think the smell is ever really gone. Though I probably give up too soon, haha.

I also favor the spot washing of the area. Then put her into a very clean litter pan.
You can also dust the area with corn starch. It absorbs odor and moisture, then she can clean herself or it will fall off more once dry.

Cornstarch? Really? I never thought of that. Luckily I’m a pretty well behaved human so I clean the litter compulsively so his booty doesn’t smell too bad….

Pam – Doesn’t the corn starch cause the area to be too dry?  I’m curious as I have never heard of doing that.  After I swab the area, I put a dab of 100% pure aloe gel on the area to soothe it as sometimes the skin is so delicate that swabbing the area clean will irritate the tender skin.

It’s possible that the corn starch will make a normally dry bun too dry. It is best for absorbing moisture, such as when the pee soaks the fur and doesn’t dry out on its own. I guess I learned about it when Spockie got incontinent, and he had a lot of urine moisture all the time and was too infirm to clean himself properly. I thought perhaps if a small area of fur wasn’t coming clean to the point of smelling, a wee bit of corn starch, which isn’t harmful, might be able to absorb the odor and stray moisture. You could brush it off and then use a moisturizer if the area is too dry. Maybe it’s not good advice after all.

I love how the post turned into comparing “booty smells”. Hahaha. Only on BB…
