Many of us use Libby’s canned pumpkin as a food supplement for our bunnies.  Nestle has announced in the following statement on their website that due to soggy conditions in the Illinois pumpkin fields there was a limited corp this year, with no new product stock expected until next fall.

        Here’s the important part:

”[W]e’ve made the difficult decision that we will not pack any more pumpkin this year
which means that through the holiday season and until next fall’s harvest, LIBBY’S
pumpkin will be hard to find.”

Oh wow! That’s not good. I am going to see if I can find the canned Organic one that I’ve gotten in the past. I only use it for rabbits in stasis though and really they don’t care for the taste – it doesn’t have any!

Canning your own is really easy, it only takes a few hours and you skip any preservatives. It also makes way better pies than that canned stuff… ewww!

Canning your own pumpkin may be a good idea. From what I’m hearing from other forums, it’s not just Libby’s brand, but all brands whether you buy organic or not. If you see any canned pumpkin in the stores, I would pick up a can or two.

And it’s still pumpkin season, so you can probably find fresh ones in the market for another week or so. I’d chop and food process those suckers until I had some jars full.
