So new bun Blaze got some out time today and is zooming and binkying around like a mad fool. The thing that I’m curious about though is that he thumps as he zooms! What does that mean?

Young rabbits can sometimes thump out of some type of lust for life. It’s like they are playing out their whole repertoire of  expression. So thumping doesn’t have to mean the rabbit is scared, much like a binky doesnt have to mean the rabbit is happy. Like so many of rabbit behaviors, it needs to be interpreted in context.

Some rabbits also thump when they’re miffed. And then there are buns like my Bam, who figured out that a thump in the middle of the night wiuld get the the hoom out of bed to fuss over him and offer treats 🤣

When rabbits thump due to fear they will often thump several times in a row, with a few seconds in between, and they will look fearful and crouched and ready to flee.

Your description of Blaze’s behavior makes me think he’s just a very happy bun.

Bun Jovi will thump when he zooms around too! I always interpret it as him letting us all know that he is in charge. LOL

Oh gosh! Sorry for never responding Dana! Bun Jovi sounds like an awesome bun! Your post about his smushy-face sleeping killed me! 😆
