Can rabbits yawn???

I think I saw Pumpkin yawn today which I have never seen before. Can our fur balls yawn like humans?

here is a youtube video (only about 20 seconds) that includes a bunny yawn.  not my bunny… but she yawns the exact same way.  big stretch, mouth wide open, teeth sticking out.  she will also stretch up against her NIC cubes and do a vertical yawn…

My bunnies evening routine when I get home and shake the pellet bag is to do a GIANT yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwnnnnnnn and then a giant sstttreeeetcccchhh and then they sit in front of their food dishes and wait for the food to come. My favorite part of the bunny yawn is seeing their litle teeth!

I hate to admit it, but when my bun yawns and I’m close by, I like to put a piece of hay into her mouth. Not poke it down her throat, but lie it across her tongue. The face she gives me as she chews it in half is priceless.

I suppose it’s a bad thing to do really, and I”ve only done it twice but boy, I do love her look of disapprovals.

Hahaha Markus!! I had a friend that if you yawned in her presence she’d pop a finger on your tongue…ended your yawn immediately and felt pretty weird! I sympathize with your buns! LOL

We LOVE seeing our bunnies yawn, it really is the cutest thing!

This is not our bunny, he is an adoptable from Rabbit Haven in Gig Harbor Washington.  But it is such a great “yawn” pic!!

LOLZ! That yawning white bun looks like it’s singing opera…like the old Skittles commercial! ^^
Mimzy yawns ALL the time. I sometimes wonder if he’s getting enough oxygen, not to mention enough sleep! Since he’s up all nite doing binkies in his pen lately.

I have yet to get a piccy of it. That sweet little face contorted into the ‘carnivorous bunny’ fang-showing mouth is just hilarious!

*giggles* Markus & K&K, my son used to put his finger in the cat’s mouth when he yawned, of course it would vex the cat no end, and the boy got nipped on more than one occasion. And when my cats would bite my hubby while he’s playing with them, he’d gently put his finger down their throats a short ways to train them out of it. So they don’t bite him, but they think I’m a pushover and nip me all the time!

I may have to try the hay in the yawning mouth on the bun just to get him to eat his hay these days. ^^

Thank God I went through a few of these and saw that bun you posted here, K&K! I’ve been wondering if Mimzy had something wrong with his back legs, but was too scared to bring it up here…but that looooonngg, stretch that bun is doing is EXACTLY what he does! PHEW! Luey looks like he has a huge horsehead when he yawns, subsequently the horsehead yawn as I call it.

Ohh thanks Bunnytowne … Luey needs a good brushing at the moment but I have to do it outside as he is shedding so much fur.

When my sister’s dog goes home (my sister is away on a cruise at the moment but comes home today ,,, thank god LOL) I will give him a groom.

Wow, K&K, thanks for that piccy! No wonder the poor little dears can’t throw up their hairballs, look at the angle of that thoracic cavity! And I don’t see anything that looks like a uvula (where the gag reflex would be).
