I have two bunnies. They are kept separate, one who runs freely around the house, the other in a dog pen. We are going on vacation for 6 days and my fiance wants to move them to the garage while we are gone. Even though willow rarely ever chews on the walls, he doesn’t want her in the house. I guess he is worried about strangers coming in the house while we are gone to feed them. I’m really worried how willow will take being moved and put in a dog pen, since she has never been kept in a cage. On top of that, we won’t be there to play with her like normal. It is also during colder weather. The garage stays at a constant 50ish degrees and doesn’t flood. There is one normal size window that let’s in some light. I am really worried that they will be too stressed from all these changes and something will happen to them. Does anyone have any experience with temporarily moving there bunnies to a completely different and slightly colder environment?

Its not very sensible to move a bunny to a different environment when you’re not there to monitor how the changes affect them. Could you not keep them in just one room (the kitchen is normally a good option, since there’s normally less to chew and damage there) while you’re gone?

There are toxins in the garage such as fumes from chemicals and from cars, and is often bad with circulation as regular air from the house doesn’t flow through the garage like it does for the rest of the house.

Is someone going to be watching them while you’re gone? They should be put in a pen inside the house while you’re gone.

Yea, we have people coming in, but I think he doesn’t like the idea of them coming into the physical house while we are gone. He is fine with the garage so he is set on that now. Hopefully i can convince him otherwise.thank you. ☹

Are you able to get people you could trust to look after the bunnies in the house instead of strangers? I reckon your fiance isn’t comfortable because they are strangers – which I guess is understandable since it’s hard to entrust your actual house into the care of people you don’t know.

I’m not sure how the inside of your house is like, but maybe you guys could put the buns in one room like S&L suggested while locking all the other rooms while on vacation?

If you absolutely MUST put them in the garage, then perhaps you should try getting them used to being in the area so it doesn’t come as a shock later on. It’s also a good way of testing if they are alright with being there in the first place. Some bunnies adapt well while others get extremely stressed.
