        Hey everybunny,

Sorry for not posting lately, I have been very busy!

Anyways, I have a question. Can rabbits overcome illness without professional care? A few weeks ago, Luna was acting very lethargic and wasn’t eating. She dropped food out of her mouth when I gave it to her and she sometimes left the food untouched. Hay was also an issue- she barely ate any! Her poop was off, and she didn’t seem to be urinating. She had all the signs of being sick. But now, she’s back to doing binkies and eating all her favorite foods. She’s back to being excited when I walk past her cage. Her poop is normal. What happened? Should I bring her to the vet? Lastly, is this normal?

                Thank you!

                           Luna the Lop

How long did these symptoms last?

If it’s not severe, they can get over some stuff (as it happened to your bun), but since they’re so delicate and prone to getting critical very fast I’d take her anyways to have a checkup. It might be she wounded herself inside the mouth with something (then when it healed she resumed eating normally) or other dental problems or even something else I can’t think off the top of my head

These symptoms lasted about for about three days

I tdepends on what the illness is, and how severe. If she scraped the inside of her mouh, the discomfort woudl likely heal quickly on its own – as long as the bunny had a good imune system. If it were a dental problem – those don’t resolve on heir own. It sounds like she hurt her mouth, and it got better. Typically – dropping food is a sign of dental/mouth pain. It is most commonly caused by a dental problem that requries vet care. It sounds like your bunny was lucky 🙂

If my bunny was having symptoms as you described, I wouldn’t leave her for 3 days. She’d get urgent care immediately. I think you got very lucky.

I also think that if she took food then dropped it there is a possible dental problem. A rabbit not chewing or eating when foods/treats offered is a sign of this. You might have to use critical care to ensure your bunny gets the food necessary to survival.
