There has been stuf going around in my area and I am starting to get it. I have been coughing. I have stayed out of Martins pen as much as I can. Before that I was spending A LOT of time with him. I am asking because I could swear I herd him sneeze a couple times. The soonest I can get to the vet is Monday. Should I be worried?

I’m happy to report, that Martin is not in any danger of catching your cold. I find bunny time can be very therapeutic when i’m not feeling well. Hope you’ll be feeling much better soon.

His sneezing is likely not related and could be caused by hay dust or even allergies. You want to check the inside of his front paws for crustiness, if there are not crusties – it likely isn’t anything to be worried about.

I was so sick for a solid 3 months – one bad cold after another and I was still kissing my rabbit to death. I was convinced at the time I had developed allergies to him BUT then I finally recovered about a month ago and discovered I definitely do not have allergies. My point is Edson did not get anything from me so don’t worry!

Stormy will sometime sneeze a bunch of times in a row while he’s digging in his hay. I think he gets dust or something in his nose and that’s the only way for a bun to get it out. Maybe something similar happened to your bun.

You can actually look up what is contracted b/t mutliple species….the scientific term is “zoonosis”.  You just look up zoonosis with the specific species.  I know that the avma.org has a general list of zoonosis.

Interesting thing about allergies…it is very common for people to develop an “immunity” w/ their pet allergies.  Once you are exposed to it on a regular basis the problems become less severe.  There is a phenomena in the medical community…when college students come home for the holiday break.  They all the sudden become allergic to the pets they grew up w/.  No really its true!
