Can our house buns eat Pansy flowers ?   I have done a search here on Binky Bunny regarding this subject and found no discussions on this.    I then went to House Rabbit Society and did a search and again found nothing.   I searched Google and, of course, there are many articles about wild rabbits eating the pansie flowers and plants in flower beds.   I have many pansy plants in containers and they are blooming well now.   I put my plants in the containers in the fall.   I used compost soil and I used bunny manure as my fertilizer at that time.

I am curious about this also, as there are flowers that looked like pansies in those little ‘herb boxes’, marked “Edible Flowers”, at my grocery store…but I was dubious as to how safe they were. I think there were nasturtiums in there too (which I know a person can drink the honey out of the flower, but not sure about a bun.)

I’m sorry, I have no idea bout these, but I know someone here will. Hopefully they can answer both our questions.

I have continued to research this today since no one has answered this question yet.   I have learned we, ourselves, are able to eat pansies.  In fact, after reading this website (http://www.henriettesherbal.com/archives/best/1996/pansies.html) ... I may try putting some in my ice cubes and salads.    My thinking is … if we can eat pansies … and wild rabbits can eat them … I would assume they are safe for our house buns.   But, I would still like to hear from others here on this site to know for sure.

I also noted the following comment on the above listed website which may also help on the post about buns eating store bought roses  (Note the website is regarding herbs and flowers humans can eat)  … and the comment states,  ….. “Yes Anna you can eat pansies… //snip//… There are a number of edible flowers.    But if you’re new to this, PLEASE be sure to eat only flowers you KNOW have had no pesticides or fungicides sprayed on them! That means you can’t safely eat pansies from the flat you just bought at a nursery UNLESS you patronize an organic-only nursery. It also means that roses from a florist are NOT edible.

              Pansies seem to be on the veggie/fruit safe list – binkybunny.com/Default.aspx – so I’d guess they’re safe…

Yes they are on the BB bunny-safe veggie list so they are absolutely O.K. so long as they are organic and pesticide free.

I know I like to eat pansies! Oh and those little heart shaped clover things are edible too!(They are pretty nice tasting too, they are sour.)

                  I cannot wait for spring!

I’ve had both pansies and violets in salads.

And Yes, Sigh. Spring. I saw the seeds out in the store yesterday.
Of course there are still several inches of snow here in Montreal. And bitterly cold.
But this must mean Spring is coming back….

Baleful – I’ve got some snow – about 2 inches that came overnight but melted off. It’s pretty cold still and I coudl hardly believe that it was in the 60’s earlier this week, I am just waiting to see the buds on the trees and the daffodils, tulips, crocus and other early blooming flowers pop their heads up, ready for spring.
