        Hi everyone~

As some of you may know, I just got a new bun and I already have a hamster and two mice. I was cleaning out their cages the other day and their cages were right next to eachother. I noticed Sprinkles (my hamster) and my new bun at the edge of their cages investigating eachother. Now whenever their cages are next to eachother they’re both running to the edge of their cages to see eachother. Neither of them are showing any kind of aggression and seem to enjoy looking at eachother. The mice couldn’t care less lol. So I was wondering if it’s ok to keep their cages next to eachother so when I’m not home my bun has someone to talk to. Of course when i get my NIC pen made and set up my bun will be in the for the majority of the time. But until then I thought she could have some company from her next door cage neighbor. Has anyone ever done anything like this? I would never let them out of their cages together since my hamster is so tiny. Any suggestions? Is this a bad or a good idea? Thanks

I’ve kept mice in the same room as my rabbits before and never ever had a problem. It sounds like they are entertaining each other. As long as both are caged I think it’s fine. I’ve also had hamsters in the same room.

What about near rats?  I don’t have rats but just curious!

I cannot imagine rats would be a problem either – one of our members on the forum has lots of rats and rabbits too.

I have two piggies (both have their own cage) and Bun Luey … they are all in the same room together in their separate living quarters … the piggies are more interested in one another but unfortunately, I cannot have them together.

My older piggy hates the bun and will chase him off if he gets near his cage, particularly when they are out having some run time.  Luey is more interested in jumping in piggy’s cage to look for scraps.  My younger piggy is scared to bits of bunny though.

I have no issues with mine being in separate cages but in the same room.

The things that some to mind here are:

                  1) Nipping noses
                  2) Keeping food out of each others reach (making sure the buts & seeds your hammie or rodent gets, your rabbit doesn’t)
                  3) Pine or cedar shavings that you may be using for your rats, mice or hamsters. Our little rodent friends also suffer the same conseqences rabbits do (liver & kidney damage) from them, not to mention respiratory problems.

I have rats too, One day my bunny was just sitting with me, enjoying her petting and my boyfriend handed me a rat to hold for a second (while he cleaned her cage) My bunny is really friendly with all species, except her own, So she and the rat (daisy) sniffed eachother and my bunny even put her head down to “bond/cuddle” with dasiy!

I think interspecies friend are good, make sure your there or close but separate cages sounds nice too.
