Can I use ivermectin injection as a spot on medicine for rabbit’s mites??

my baby, guddu, is almost 2 years old. she has really bad fur mites. we do not have many rabbit savvy vets in my country and the only one is really far away. like in another city. i talked to some bunny advisors on facebook and they said that she need to be given an injection and I have to be the one to push it as there’s no vet nearby… literally no one in my house can handle injection. all of us are scared of it. plus we are also scared of unintentionally hurting guddu. so i did some research and i found out from a youtube video that you can apply ivermectin injection as spot-on but i was not really sure about that. i am also clueless about the dosage as i don’t want to either overdose or underdose her. i hope someone can help me with this situation. guddu started to sleep more instead of eating as her body is always itching and i feel so bad. i don’t want my baby’s condition to worsen. so it would be a great help if someone can give me a suggestion.

Ultimately, no one (including yourself) are vets here, so providing accurate diagnosis and instructions on treatment for a rabbit based on your text description is very tricky (and irresponsible) territory. If your rabbit’s mites are that bad, I would make the trip to the rabbit-savvy vet– most likely there are other things that your rabbit needs attention for if she has had really bad mites. It would be best to get a rabbit veterinarian to assess not only the mites (and provide proper guidance on treatment), but also examine your rabbit for other issues as well.

We don’t know if your bunny actually has fur mites or if the problem could be something else. As Wick said, we can only go by your description. In theory, there would be no harm in treating with Ivermectin to see if that solves the problem. After all, Ivermectin is relatively safe. HOWEVER, it is only safe if you get the correct dosage. There is a real danger of overdose, especially if you’re using a large animal formula. This would be true whether you are giving it by injection, spot-on, or orally. At the very least, you should consult with a vet to get the correct dosage for your bunny.
