So my bunny has been home for 7 days and she pretty much poops and pees in her litter box.  The only other spot she will poop in is when she is eating pellets.  Put it this way I have not had to clean out the bottom tray just pick out the poops no urine.  So my goal is going to put a hanging feeder over her litter box and her hanging hay over her litter box.  My question is do you think its to soon to move her to her NIC Condo?  The cage I have now is plenty big length and width size but it is only 17 inches high.  I just dont want to stress her out.  Whats your opinions?  Thanks Mindy

No, I don’t think it’s too soon. You’re going to have to move her pretty soon, anyway, and it’d be less stressful, I think, if you just go ahead now. She really hasn’t had enough time to get attached to her current living quarters, and she really needs to extra head-room and more room to stretch. My bunny’s food dish, hay, and water bottle are over her litter box, too, just like you are planning to do. It works perfectly. She would always pee where her pellets were.

I have a similar question about changing cages, so I thought I would just keep it in the same thread…

I brought Sweep home less than two weeks ago in a small starter cage. She’s tiny at one month old, but after reading a lot of posts I’ve noticed that I’m really going to have to get her a bigger cage not only so that she can grow into it but also for her health and happiness. She’s only been in this one for less than two weeks, and she likes it well enough, but I’m concerned about changing things too soon while she’s still learning how to live in my room with me. I’m only in an apartment and my room is only around 100 square feet, so the new cage can’t be massive but I’d like to switch.

I don’t think it’s too soon either, she’ll probably be grateful for having more room

I think you should switch too. I brought home Wilbur when she was 8-10 weeks old. She was litter trained in 3 days (not always the case I know) and since then I have kept her kennel ( 2 feet by 4 feet, 3 feet tall) open, put a baby gate in the doorway of my room and let her run around my room 24/7. Babies have so much energy, they aren’t like human babies, they don’t want to be babied (as much as we humans want to baby them ;P) they need lots of room to run around and binky.

@bunnyfriend – She definitely has full reign of my bedroom floor, including under my bed where she likes to laze around and hide from me, haha. But since I am at work most of the day I’d like to get her something bigger so she can binky in her cage, which she’s hopefully likely to do.

Heehee sounds like she’d do well with a bigger cage then! (: I would maybe suggest an exercise pen or a N.I.C. condo. Since you said you don;t have much room with an N.I.C condo you can build up with multiple levels! Or a baby gate in your doorway as long as your room is fully bunnyproofed.

@bunnyfriend – Unfortunately the space I have her in is under my desk, so working upwards won’t really work, but I could try to rearrange some things to make that work. That is, if I can find an NIC Condo seller in China. Also, silly question alert but what’s a baby gate?

N.I.C condos are condos you make yourself out of these things called Neat Idea Cubes, here’s a link on what they are and how to make them: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/NIC.shtml probably won’t have the same brand of storage cubes in China as we do here, but maybe they feel something similar. Lol I’m not judging ;P here’s a pic of the baby gate I have in the doorway of my room:

Sorry about the first picture being sideways. But basically it’s a gate you can secure in your doorway to prevent your bunny from leaving your room while you’re gone so you can allow your bun to be oustide of their cage (they’re made for human babies originally though). You can see Wilbur’s kennel in the far right corner in the first picture, I’m taking away the kennel completely after she is spayed, she never gets put it in anyway. I just am using an old cheap babygate that my family used to block off part of the house when my dog was a puppy, but they make nicer looking ones that you can open and shut (I just walk over mine). I really like it because Wilbur can have run of the entire room 24/7 and I don’t have to shut the door on her or worry about her escaping, and she likes to sit near it and watch everything that’s going on with the rest of the family/house. My room is completly bunny proofed so she’s safe.

Oh, haha! I see now – human baby gates! I’ll look into rabbit-proofing my room, but when I’m inside with her I usually just keep the door closed… I’ll definitely check out the cages, and see what I can find in China. You learn to be creative about things here
