You can keep a solo bun. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Altho there are exceptions – most bunnies are happier with a bun friend.

And if you can’t spend 4 hours a day with him bonding and playing with him then a friend will keep him company

It is largely a matter of how much time the rabbit will get to spend with its humans. Rabbits are very social creatures and they do like company. If the owner is away most of the day and has a busy social life in the evenings/weekends, the rabbit’s quality of life will suffer.

Rabbits can be difficult to bond though, so it’s easiest on the human to adopt an already bonded couple.

Hi, I have a solo bun and I can only speak from the perspective of being a solo bun mom, my rabbit is fine. With that said, though, I do not work outside the home daily and we have what I consider a rather small life…. we don’t venture too far out for very long amounts of time. So she gets plenty of attention. It can be done. My Bun is also free roam of the majority of the home for almost the entirety of the day and only goes into her den at night when we all go to sleep. So she has plenty of room to run around as well. I guess the rule of thumb would be that just prepare to give, and learn to give your rabbit to be its very best of life with you… and hopefully it will be your guide.

Indie is an only bun. I do work a lot but I make sure she gets at least 3 hours out of her cage per day and when I am home and off she has pretty free reign of my house. She’s always excited when I come home because she knows I will let her out, but she doesn’t seem terribly sad, or lonely. She just maximizes on those days that she gets to be out with us all day.

I have a solo bun as well. He has always liked people but not other buns. I used to be away 9 hours or more each day for work and spend the rest of my time with him (he’s free range and my best friend). He is a VERY happy little bunny. Always has been. So yes, a solo bun is totally ok depending on the bun and on your bond.

I have a single bun that is free roam 24/7, I am retired so she see’s me so much she get’s annoyed sometimes and turns her back too me so I’ll let her alone. my bun loves her alone time from 12 noon until 6 p.m. even though people say bunnies are social, mine is not that social. she likes to be around me from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. she will lay with me on the floor and hop on my chest and make a bed to lay down on me but that only last for an hour, the rest of the time she just lays on the living room floor next to me. at 11 p.m. she goes to my bedroom and sleeps on my nightstand until 4 a.m. and then wakes me for breakfast. I think a single bunny will be fine just spend at least 4 hour’s a day with them, and if possible train her to be a free roam house bunny, I hate seeing a bunny in a cage. my bunnies cage has the door removed as she only eats in there, she won’t eat anywhere else. her cage was her first home when I got her at 8 weeks old so it’s her secure place. bunnies are very smart and can be taught to not destroy the house, I have hay stations throughout the house and toy’s to keep her busy and she doesn’t destroy anything of mine, not even electrical chords. so go get your bunny and enjoy her/him and have fun. also 2 or more bunnies will fight, my friend has 3 and they have to be kept away from each other when no one is home. I know my bun would not like another bun in her house, when my friend comes over he has to wash his hands very good to remove the smell from his bunnies or my bun will bite him when he tries to pet her as she can smell his bunnies.

Since being spayed my bun is very good.  I am afraid to keep her free range all the time because I worry about accidentally squishing her in our sleep.  Does your bun stay out of the bed or how did you get around that issue ?

@kiki. I have small night lights throughout the house that point down on the floor like at the movie theater, this way I always can see where my bun is when I get out of bed. she also stays in my room until she get’s me up at 4, if she has to go pee she will go to her litter box a few rooms away but she comes right back. she has a blanket on my nightstand where she sleeps at night, she made it clear that the nightstand is her a year ago by pushing everything off onto the floor, I would put the items back but she just pushed them off again, so she won the battle. when I first go to bed she sit’s next to me while I read and then when I turn the light out she hops over to her nightstand, so I don’t have to worry about rolling over on her, plus she pays close attention when I move in bed so she won’t get squished. I had her spayed at 5 months old, I got her at 8 weeks old. she’s 16 months old now.

My bun often sleeps in my bed. No squishing because he likes the pillow next to my head or the foot of the bed (plus he has jedi reflexes). ?
