I look after my sister’s rabbits and yesterday my brother-in-law went to get some rabbit food for the rabbits (duh).

Anyway, he’s so cleverrrr,, that he’s gone and bought gerbil food.

It looks much nicer, so I gave them it anyway.

        Will they die?

You should have queried this before feeding it to them instead of doing it anyway and then asking if they’ll die…

Gerbils and rabbits have very different needs so a rabbit needs rabbit pellets.

As for if it will actually harm them? Who knows. Can you post the ingredients list?

It would be good if you post the ingredients in the food you have. I looked up a couple brands of gerbil food. They are higher in protein and fat than rabbit food should be and not as high in crude fiber. I highly doubt gerbil food will kill your rabbits, but they could get stomach trouble. You might see poopy butt/ extra cecals. The ingredients seem to be mostly cereal and seeds, none of which is healthy for rabbits. You could perhaps use the gerbil food as rare treats.

Try to make your buns eat extra hay now to avoid stomach problems. Try to get some plain rabbit pellets instead of the gerbil food. If your buns are good at eating hay, they will be fine on hay only until you can get proper rabbit pellets. If they are not good hay eaters, don’t put them on a hay only diet cold turkey.
