Hi all– I look at this forum daily but have never posted before.

Two of my guys, newly-bonded Eeyore and Bentley, got into a fight this evening.  We were checking both bunnies for bites (nothing bad found, thankfully, and we hope the bonding pains are over), and we noticed a bunch of strange things that look like black moles on Bentley’s back.

We just got Bentley a week ago to be a partner for Eeyore, so this was the first time we’ve examined her this closely.  They are flat, smooth, black (she’s all black herself) and it doesn’t bother her when you touch or press them.  They’re really like large, flat moles.  Is this possible?  Should I be worried?  There are probably 10 to 15 all over her back.

One of my bunnies does have a mole on his cheek. =)

But I remember my bunnies had black, flat things like those on their skin before, a long time ago. We asked the vet about it. I forget what they were. I think they were bruises… (back when my bunnies’ bond had newly broken, and they broke into a lot of fights before we separated them)

Welcome CamilleS. I am so glad you decided to post!

Boy, I sure am getting stumpers lately. I honestly don’t know what that is. I know that it would be explained if she was a spotted bunny and that was just pigment, but the fact that she is all black…I don’t know. I know some bunnies can get moles, and some can actually be melanoma, but from what I have read they would be slightly raised. But you say these are flat and smooth.

I will ask the other leaders too to come check this post out. Since Bentley is new to your household, it might be a good idea to get a regular vet checkup anyway.

I’m not familiar with this either. I agree with BinkyBunny to take him into a vet for a check-up. This isn’t an emergency, but maybe within the next couple weeks. Where did you get Bentley, do you know how old he is? Also, do you have a rabbit savvy vet for Eeyore?

can you feel them when you pet her?  I am wondering if they are scabs from squabbling.   Did the other bunny ever bite or hair pull from her back or rump?

I am bonding my 2 bunnies Cotton and Schroeder- Cotton I have had since she was little, so over a year now and she has super thick plush fur that sheds like mad.  Schroeder I have had about 2 months and his coat in much thinner and not as “healthy” from having assumed poor nutrition- so he takes the brunt of any disagreement it seems.  He will end up with a mouthul of superfine white fur from Cotton, and she is able to get in shallow bites and scratches on him.

                  Thank you all so much.

We do have a great rabbit vet and we are planning to take Bentley in in the next week.  Bentley is just about two years old.

They have been squabbling (and had another fight during the night) and Eeyore has been taking chunks of fur out.  It’s a possibility that they could be scabs, although they’re just so flat and smooth that it seems odd.  No, you can’t feel them when you pet her– you have to stroke her fur backward.

I’m afraid we’ll have to take them back to BunnyLuv for more professional bonding.  So sad.

Here I am to save the day!!! : ) LOL My bunnies have these too. It is only pigmentation (I asked my vet about this) and sometimes, just like in horses (only the spots are white) if a rabbit is injured and it heals over, I noticed that they healed with black spots.
