Amelia is primarily a free range bun, but she has her cage for at night or when no one is home with her. I work from home so she is very rarely locked up. Anyways the cage I have for her is the cage that her breeder recommended, and it’s big enough that she can comfortably flop out but I’ve decided to get her something bigger and collapses down flat for when we travel. I got her a dog kennel that is ment for dogs up to 60lb so her not quite 6lb self should have more then enough space.

Is there anything special I should do to transition her to her new house?

I got her a new larger litter pan for this cage and plan to put some of her used litter into it so she knows it’s hers, that how we taught her to use her litter pan that’s in my studio and not in her cage.

I’m finishing up some fitted fleece and flannel blankets that will fit the plastic pan that is the bottom of that cage. I’ll be moving her blankets into the new cage along with her food dish, hay rack and water bottle. Am I forgetting anything?

Yay for Amelia! New digs. I think your idea to move some of the old litter into the new pan is a great one. She’ll definitely get used to using it quicker. I would also suggest trying to layout the cage in a similar fashion to her previous one, specifically the litter pan. If it was in the left-hand corner, keep it in the left-hand corner, etc. Obviously not everything can be the same but I usually try to keep litter pans and food in, generally, the same orientation so it will be easier for the to acclimate. The blankets with her scent will also be a big help.

I think you’ve got a great plan and hope everything works out!

            Thanks pink

She has handled the move great, she’s been eating drinking and using the litter pan. She has been hanging out in there happily while I rearranged the living room to better fit her new house.

Luckily she is super easy going, she’s now flopped on the couch cuddling with me when I actually sit down
