Sorry to bombard the forum, just have a lot happening right now.
Sophie’s spay is Friday. I know I’ll get postop instructions from the vet, but I want to check here about how to handle her cage setup before she gets home. I’ve read that I should be restricting hopping, and not pick her up for the first couple of days. Right now, she has a pet store cage which opens to her “yard,” an xpen which is attached. She has to hop in and out, and sometimes clumsybun gets caught on the door if she’s in a hurry. (ie, foot flicking at me while she flounces when free time ends sooner than she wanted.) Should I:
a.) Leave it as is, and trust her to make that tiny hop sparingly cos she’ll be sore and sleepy from the meds anyway.
b.) Remove the shelf inside and restrict her to her cage for a few days, which is small but is her home base and comfort zone.
c.) Restrict her to x-pen with a hidey box, which would be flat and have more space, but I have never seen her just flopped out there. She plays, but I don’t believe it is her “safe place.”
I’m so worried about my baby. She just seems so tiny to have surgery! The vet, while not particularly compassionate, (he informed me that feral rabbits were calmer than Sophie is and maybe I need to bond with her better… we’re bonded just fine, you’re a complete stranger trying to look in her mouth!) said all of the correct things about rabbit-specific care, so it should be okay.
