Hey all this is Mel’s BF again to bug you. I get paid this friday and am wonderign if I should just go look for an xpen to setup in the kitchen(as that is onyl place with tile) or if I should just think of making a big cage for her. I know the security aspect of it makes me wonder but it is a baby dwarf rex so I don’t think she will be able to hop over too much as she does not seem much of a hopper (YET!). Any advice would be appreciated.

Either way you could build it yourself with storage cubes for less than $30… I would do that, whether you build a cage or a pen, just to save money (x-pens tend to be ridiculously expensive at pet stores). If you live in the US, you may want to post a want ad in the pets section of craigslist.com. You may find a good deal from someone who doesn’t need their setup anymore.

Eh, this is Binky…just in admin mode and too tired to switch – Anyway, check out the "cool habitats" section (in Bunny Info) to see all the options. I have had both and each type worked best for different scenarios. I use pens now because we have more room, and I can say that pens are easier to clean for me.  The other thing is if you want to set up the pen some place else, you can get a vinyl sheet remnant pretty cheap at most flooring stores. I think I got a huge one for something like 20 bucks and put that underneath the pen. You just have to be sure the edges fall outside of the pen so that the bunny doesn’t chew on the edges.

I’ve used both x-pens as well as NIC condo as housing and there are benefits to both. I like how flexible the x-pens are, and they’re great to have for travel. But, my kids loooove their multi-level bunny condo. I feel like it gives them a lot more space without taking up more space in my house. I have found clean up is less work with the condo, since the coroplast flooring is easy to keep clean.

How big is the area where you want to place her? Depending on that, and also NIC condos can get pricy because of all the added touches you may want to add but they are so much more flexible to fit into any space really and do not eat up a lot of valuable floor space. If your bunny is to spend most of it’s time in an enclosure it either should be a large space single floor run or a many-floored smaller condo. Definately check out the cool habitats section and see which you really like better. Let us know what you end up with!
