I got an ex pen for Little Man about a month ago. So far, it has been pretty great– he doesn’t eat everything I own and he still has room to play. Plus I don’t have to cage him at night now.

Here is my question…. just recently he’s been nibbling/chewing/sucking at the pen constantly. He will grab a strip of newspaper, stuff it in his mouth then proceed to gnaw for what seems like 20 min.  The newspaper ends up in tiny pieces all around the outside of the pen… What the heck is he doing?      I looked for any color change in the metal and there doesn’t seem to be any. Is this a tooth issue? Is he going to get sick?

Why does he insist on making me feel like I’m killing him all the time, little brat?!

He’s just letting you know he’s imprisoned unfairly and needs to be set free Most rabbits chew at the cage bars to let their moms know they want OUT. Theiir likely is nothing wrong with his teeth

Sounds about right getting us with guilt trips oh how hard they try. And how successful too. Cotton likes to bang his bell to let me know he knows I am up and time for him to come out and play. And the bars get it too but the bell makes more noise.

                Bunny’s do chew a lot.
I use to try to explain to my dog, who basically just swallowed food, that he should chew his food 28 times – he never listened. But, I bet my bunny’s chew their food AT LEAST 28 times – he, he.

what kind of toys do you have in his pen? you mention newspaper but what else…? like the others say it’s probably b/c he know OUT is more fun than IN. if you can bring some of that fun inside with chew toys and things he can “personalize” (destroy) tha tmight help. you want to be careful that you don’t let him out in response to him chewing the pen. that will have the reverse effect and teach him that if he chews, you’ll get the hint and come let him out to play. wait until he’s not cheiwng at the pen to go over and let him out.

that’s what I was afraid of. He is just PO-ed that he can’t run the entire house anymore. He is so darn hard headed!!!
He has tons of toys… just more stubborn-ness! It’s a good thing I do too or he’d having me fetching his slippers.
Thanks for helping me out guys.

oh, was he free-range before? that could certainly explain his annoyance then. make sure he continues to get as much out-of-pen time as possible…
