I was going through a safe veggie list and cabbage wasn’t on there.  I fed a tiny bit to my bunny last night.  Is it safe?  Will she be okay?

cabbage is safe but it can cause gas and should be fed in very tiny amounts, or avoided all together.  it is listed as:

VEGETABLES USUALLY TOLERATED, BUT MORE LIKELY TO CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS IN VERY SENSITIVE RABBITS

here is a good list that has about every conceivable thing… binkybunny.com/Default.aspx

i would suggest you print it out and take it to the store when shopping for bunny veggies.

I agree with Beka, I have one printed out on my fridge and in my purse.

I don’t usually feed cabbage just because there are many veggie options that are more gentle on the bunny tummy. My bunnies definitely prefer romaine, parsley and cilantro. I don’t change up their veggies too much – but occasionally I will give them collard greens, turnip greens or red leaf lettuce. They tend to snub anything but their “favorites” though

Thank goodness! I did have a veggie list, but cabbage wasn’t on there and I didn’t realize that might mean no-no until I fed it to her. You guys are so helpful. Definitely keeping that list handy, Beka.

don’t tell anyone but i made the list smaller, cut it out and laminated it…

what about dried chamomile? (it’s on the list, but is dried the same as fresh?)

Dried chamomile is fine. I consider that to be more of a treat type item though.

Beka, that’s what our shelter does.
It’s laminated & the size of a credit card, veggies on one side & fruit on the other.
They put them in there adoption packs.
