Hi all! My little Coco has been with us for a little less than 6th months now. She’s a 2 year old lionhead x rex.

I usually check her teeth once every few weeks, but I noticed her nose was wet today. I also noticed that she’s been making a “buzzing sound” these past few days. I don’t think it’s teeth grinding as she really sounds like a little bumblebee. It usually lasts a few seconds then she stops. Any idea why she’s doing this? I know that wet nose/mouth can mean teeth problems, so I wanted to know your opinions before heading to the vet. Also, she looks very pitiful in that picture but I promise she’s happy and fine. Thanks for all the help!

A rabbit’s nose can be wet sometimes, esp after physical activity. This is because healthy rabbits only ever breathe through their noses even when they run around – unlike like dogs who will breathe with an open mouth when they are being physically very active. Moisture from the air that flows in and out of the rabbit’s nose can deposit around the nostrils and cause a wet nose.

The buzzing sound is just an adorable bunny thing =) It can be a part of courtship behavior, or, in a spayed/neutered bun it can just be an excited sound f ex when the bun comes running up to you in the hope of getting a treat. My bun buzzes sometimes, but my bridge bun Vilde buzzed a lot.

Her teeth look lovely. You can’t see the molars yourself without an otoscope, but neither a wet nose or a buzzing sound indicate a dental issue.

Yes, buzzing is just a happy bunny sound. They do it when they are trying to win over a mate or simply out of excitement.

Thanks for your responses! That’s what I thought, except she only does it when she sleeps! Could she just be having a good dream?

She could perhaps be dreaming of sth nice?

Its a pretty unmistakable sound,  exactly like a little bumble bee. Its not the kind of sound that comes from breathing difficulties – that can sound like faint sobbing or even twittering.

Some rabbits snore when they sleep 😂
