Burrowing

Shadow only burrows on our couch.   What types of things can we set out so she can burrow without destroying our couch?

Blankets!

 

ALL my buns LOVE to burrow and we keep blankets handy just for them. They love to move them around, straighten them out, ball them back up, tunnel thru them and so on. Just make sure its a cheap blanky that they can ruin (mine have chewed small holes and sometimes have accidents on them too).

i keep pillows and comforters on the couches at all times.  Mead likes to dig at them and it keeps her from digging at the couches.  she does not have accidents or anything, so i wash them weekly to get the fur off and we’re good to go.

Ugh, I have the same problem too. You would not believe what the ‘bunny’ side of my sofa cushion looks like… she has chewed multiple large holes and torn out the stuffing, and she pees all over it – it’s horrible. Putting things over the cushion don’t help because she just chews through that too – pillows, blankets, towels, comforters… sigh.

I don’t know if I can. I leave her cage door open most of the time, so she’s been free-roaming for quite a while. Now when she uses my sofa as a toilet, as soon as I see it I pick her up and tell her NO, then put her in her cage for a time-out and clean it up. Then she won’t do it for a little while… like a few hours maybe. If I’m lucky. But I think we’re making progress… she needs to get her lady parts removed.

i’ll ditto the blankets solution.  i’ve kept baby bun off of the couch (she’ll pee & poop if she’s up there longer than a couple of seconds) but give her a blankie to play with on the floor.  i’ve found that fleece works best since it doesn’t rip & is not stringy when she nibbles on it.  also, fleece is absorbent so if she pees on it it’s okay & just gets into the pee-pee wash pile.  i’ve managed to find remnant pieces of fleece for pretty cheap so i have several to rotate when they get dirty.  pinky bun is not yet free-roaming and hasn’t had access to couches but i’m giving her blankies in her cage & she absolutely loves playing with them!  took her less than 30 sec to get completely under it

Jelleaux-Maybe put a litter box on your couch, then encourage her to use it there…She may just think it’s OK to go on the couch. Then you can use a shopvac or a carpet cleaner to tidy your couch up

Sigh. She has several hand towels to play with – and she does – but she still rips whatever else she wants up. She has a lot of toys and things; pieces of cardboard, paper towel tubes, slinkies, a phone book, stuffed animal toys, a “chube,” an igloo with a seat cushion under it, a hay ball, a Shiner Beer box that she loves to hide in, and two litter boxes – one in her cage, and one out, under an armchair where she likes to hang out.

Actually, I tried that too. She would go in it, but she’d still go on the sofa too. I have tried to make it very clear that it is not okay for her to do her business there… but she just won’t listen! Grrr. I am constantly cleaning my sofa. I’m afraid it just won’t stop until I can get her spayed. It would be very hard to keep her off of it completely… she loves to run and jump on it, and sit with me.
