So ive been watching a lot of rabbit behaviour videos, and literally only found out that bunnies will sleep while flopped over? I know this is a sign of deep relaxation, but I was very surprised as I’ve only ever seen Boo flop once or twice (when getting a lot of attention and treats from my friends) let alone sleep like that. She will always just sits there in a loaf position with her ears pinned back, (which I thought meant that they were sick or scared, but she’s done this as long as I’ve had her so I think it’s just normal for her). She will also sleep like this. Are some rabbits more relaxed than others? Is there a way for me to relax her?

My Bam slept in loaf position at least for the first year I had him. He never sleeps flopped all the way on the side, his head is always directed forward, but with the chin on the floor.

My bun Yohio could sleep flopped on the side, one cheek against the floor. I don’t know if it means he was more relaxed. He was a bolder, more energetic rabbit than Bam is. Maybe he was more confident over all.

You can always help your bun relax by doing light massages, t-touch, head rubs. Make sure there are comfy places to rest in. My Bam has a doll bunk bed that he loves. When he’s feeling social he lies on the top bed, when he’s not feeling quite as social he likes to lie under the “roof”.

Don’t expect quick “results”. With rabbits, patience and perseverance is pretty much the only way.

In the 8 months that I’ve had Harley and Thumper I have seen Harley flop twice and have yet to see Thumper flop. Storm on the other hand has flopped daily. I think some buns are more willing to flop than others.

Pretty Boy (My bun) almost never flops. He is almost always in a loaf position and when he is feeling sleepy he slides all the way out laying flat out as I call it. I’ve seen him flop around 3 times so nothing to be worried about! your buns are happy and cozy!

Agreed with everyone else. Some buns are just not floppers while others flop frequently. I’ve only seen my bun flop maybe about 5 times? He prefers the “pancake” position as I call it – all fours spreading out on the floor with his head down. If it’s a loafing position with ears resting on the back but their noses stop twitching or they have half closed eyes, then I’d still count that as pretty relaxed.

I think most bunnies flop with the intention of sleeping/resting, so it’s normal that they sleep while in that position. Usually it’s a deep sleep.

I often find Atlas totally flopped and asleep on his side, with his eyes closed. I’ve never seen the other two do that, although they both lie down with their legs out, and Luna throws herself onto her side occassionally.

                    All buns are different

@ Boo: And her little sister is all, “Dear God, Clover, get UP, you’re embarrassing the entire species!”
