Rocky looks like he has suddenly lost a lot of weight, his fur looks weird too, maybe less of it on his face( he’s a lion head) i’m not really sure, the othr buns have come down with the sniffles & sneezes. I know i should get them to the vet asap but i just wondered what you all might think it could be from? Also everyone seems to be eating and pooping just fine.

Hmm, weight loss is usually not a a good sign, definately get Rocky to a vet and get the rest of them to a vet as well, they could have snuffles. Is Rocky lethargic at all or overactive?

I wouldn’t say lethargic, but I do have to coax hom out a little more. I don’t know if this is stress related either for him with all the buns and trying to match him up and what not. He sprays when ever I try to have him visit with Wilbur cuz I am still hopefully they can bond as I am so attached to him the most of the rescues. I have been letting the other buns run around a little bit more then before. who knows but am gonna call the vet tomorrow. Hopefully he is ok and the other buns too.

When you say sniffles and sneezes is there discharge? If there is discharge and it is white or green you will want to get a culture done.

Also when you say Rocky has lost weight and his fur looks weird it makes me wonder if he’s molting. Just a possibility.

                    Healthy bunny vibes to all.

crap….possibly found a cause…rocky has fleas…which means…..grrr, i hate this place. this was a prob when we moved, apparently the landlord was in in the basement and dug up some dirt fleas, they hadn’t made it up this way and i had been spraying the place just in case. what do I use? crap crap crap, sick buns and 5 buns and 5 cats, I think i could cry right now. I guess it’s possibly he’s molting, his face looks thin do to it, could the fleas be why, making him anemic or something? I’m pissed now. I feel so bad them too,

I think that fleas are enough to stress out a bun and make him a bit depressed. There is a type of flea repellent to use on buns, I forget which is safe, one of the other posters will tell you I’m sure but I know you can’t just use anything. Hang in there! I know fleas are stressfull, but if your persistent youll kill the little bastards!!!

Fleas could be a problem. Poor buns. You can use Revolution or Advantage on him (never Frontline though).

Are you spraying stuff around the rabbits too? I’m sure that you aren’t but I just want to make sure because I wonder if that’s causing some reactions too – just a thought.

no I haven’t sprayed around the rabbits, I haven’t sprayed in a while and it natural safe stuff herbal junk this was before I had the whole rabbit gang. I just took a flea comb to rocky which is normally what i comb him with and oh boy that was not fun but I could tell he was enjoying the comb probly helping with itchies…

Here is a good article on what are NOT safe antibiotics for rabbits.

                                http://www.bunnybytes.com/update0209/page5.html

Probably easier than what is safe since there are a multitude that are.

I knew some of those….I’m just trying to see if there was anything else i needed from pet meds, hoping to clear up the sinus thing they all seems to have…I feel like a bad mom. This place is almost not worth living at any more. I’ve even sprayed in the basement, thought they would die or something if they were still down there, no they just moved up where it’s warm….

Baby was prescribed baytril (ciprofloxacin/enrofloxacin) for a bacterial infection in her eyes.  would you need that for fleas or was that ques before you discovered them?

Well, the best thing as far as meds goes is to have the culture done so you know what medications are sensitive to the particular problem. I don’t think anyone can really give you med recommendations other than the vet.

yes true, however, I’m hoping they will let me just bring in 1 or 2 as they all have the same symptoms.

yes that was the orginal question before the fleas, well just trying to figure out what could be wrong cuz they all have sniffles & sneezes…*sigh*

Baytril and enroflaxin are the same medications. Ciproflaxin is different from those but is a safe drug as well – it may be a derivative of the enroflaxin.

However, please don’t take anyone’s advice on the list about what the vet would prescribe for your rabbits – it could be totally wrong and you will need correct dosages for whatever medication is prescribed for each rabbit.

oops… didn’t mean to sound as though i was recommending, just that that *are* meds for bunnies that aren’t dangerous & Baby had no bad effects from taking this… thanks for clarifying that Sarita!

Amy, a bunny safe natural flea repellent and cleaner I use is Murphy’s Oil Soap. Here is an article on topical flea treatments from the HRS that I recommend you read: http://www.rabbit.org/health/frontline.html

You poor thing! Salting the carpet is also supposed to work as well.

I ordered some flea stuff next day delivery , Rocky is  mad at me since I came home for some reason. he wouldn’t even come out for craisins and would run tward me quick turn and thump, he has never done this before. craziness. I’m just sad about everything, I feel like this crazy hoarder or something. I can’t seem to find homes for any of the buns and now this and I’m broke. I keep telling me these little buns wouldn’t even be alive if it weren’t for me but now they have fleas and colds. Which i know is manageable, just having a tough time. They are all such great little buns too!

Not having carpets definately makes it easier to clean and for pest prevention.  Have you contacted any local rabbit shelters for help placing them or even a flyer at your vets office? I keep crossing my fingers for you hoping that each one is going to find a forever home. Take some time for yourself too, I hate seeing you get burnt out. Take care, O.K.?

I haven’t put any posters or anything up yet at the vets/shelters. there is a place semi locally that takes rabbits in and fosters them even though that was more or less my intention, I just don’t feel like I can do this on my own with this amount of animals and with what little i make. Now maybe if I was loaded and in a large house…. ..I just spent $200 on flea stuff today, had to get it for everyone….

what about matresses? the problem is that the fleas are in the basement and that’s also where the washer & dryer is. Blah…

well I got the advantage today and put it on everyone so hopefully that will help but that is gonna be a pretty penny every month. I have an appointment at the vets later in the week but everyone seems ok. I ordered some coroplast for a bottom for wilburs cage and I plan to just fill it with bedding as we seem to be having more of an issue with the litter box training with him for some reason so maybe that will give me a better idea as to where he is going so it doesn’t look like everywhere! I feel a little brighter about everything, I will be moving them all in the slightly bigger room soon which I feel like I can space everything different so there is a little more room for everyone. Things should be ok!

What type of flooring is in the basement?  I would defiantely see if the manager would be open to treating the source of the infestation. Boric acid works well (Flea Busters makes one). I would think that the owner of the building would be proactive in treating this problem.  They can ride up in your laundry and become an ongoing problem.
