I don’t know if this belongs here exactly but I didn’t want to upset anyone.
My lop hasn’t been eating, he’s at the vets rn but I’m going to bring him home instead of stay over night. He’s being syringe fed but hasn’t pooped and isn’t moving.
I know he’s probably going to die and I’m so sad hes only 7 months old.
I thought bringing him home could make him more comfortable but idk.
I just want him to be okay.
Please ask your god’s to help him if you are religious he means so much to me.
If he’s having an episode of stasis he needs to remain at the vet until they get it under control. I don’t understand why you’re bringing him home. I get you want him to be comfortable, but he’ll be more comfortable at the vet getting treatment and being monitored around the clock.
If they can determine the cause of the stasis (bloat, dental, blockage, just generally unwell) most buns do recover from stasis, with appropriate care and time at the vet and a good after care plan. If there’s no blockage he should be on motility meds.
He’s been at the vets all day and they said he can come home. Obviously when I get there I’m going to talk it through more but as far as I know so far he just need to be fed which I can do
and I’m going to be sitting next to him all night since I don’t plan to sleep . If anything changes I can get to the vet on call in 5 minutes. Staying there is expensive and if it’s not going to change anything I can’t afford to pay but obviously if the vet tells me they need to keep him in going to let them.
Why don’t they have him on motility meds if he’s “just not eating” his gut needs help moving again.
I don’t know I’m going to talk to them soon. He has had some form of food.
They are vets with a lot of experience with rabbits. I’m sure they know what they’re doing in this specific case better than you. Thanks for being supportive in my time of distress.
I wasn’t trying to be rude, but it’s a little premature to say your rabbit is going to die, like you implied, which is why I was asking the questions I did. If they’re knowledgeable like you claim then he’ll be fine. And just so you know, my boy Bombur has had a deadly case of stasis called Enterotoxemia. In medical fact he should be dead as he had it at 6 months old and it’s fatal very quickly. He’s now almost 2. I have a bit of experience with stasis because he gets it frequently do to a chronic condition he has. So yes, I was asking question I have to frequently ask the vet.
I’m moving this thread to the Q&A section.
Taking a bun home can in some cases be better than have the bun stay over night a the vets. Not all vets are staffed 24/7. If that’s the case with your vets, I think taking him home would be better for him. You should ask about this.
If you bring him home, he needs to be kept warm – you can give him hand warmers or a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel. If he likes sitting in your lap , you can have him in your lap with a fleece blanket on him. Your body warmth will keep him comfortable.
You will also need feeding-syringes and supportive care food (critical care, recovery plus etc), pain meds and, if your vet is certain there is no GI blockage, a gut motility drug.
Please keep us posted, we understand how incredibly stressful this must be for you -many of us have been through similar things.
Yeah sorry if I was being rude too I was having a panic attack.
He’s home now as the vet said all they would be doing would be keeping an eye on him and giving food and meds.
He’s on critical care and 2 meds. And he ate a little bit of veg! He seems a lot happier as he is terrified of new places and strange noises and eats more when I’m with him normally.
I thought he was going to die bc the vet said he probably would. It had been over a day since he pooped but he is now so hopefully he will be alright, even though there is still a risk.
I’m glad hes home and seems to be improving! Like I said before, keep him warm and feed him. I’m guessing your vet gave you instructions on how often and how much to feed him.
Give him a water bowl if he normally has a bottle – it’s very important that he drinks. Also try to make him move around a little – exercise helps the intestines move. You can also try a very light bunny massage like in this video:

He will want to be near you (in the same room), because rabbits take comfort in the company of friends.
Thank you! Yeah the vet told us what to do. He normally has a bottle and bowl but he isn’t drink rn so he’s getting his liquid through crit care.
He’s walked around a bit and I’m camping out next to home so hopefully everything’s good there. Thank you!
I am so sorry you are going through this but am happy to hear he’s doing better!! I don’t know his name but healing vibes are being sent his way!!
Please keep us posted!
Thank you! His name’s أزرق
Many good (((((healing vibes))))) from me too!
Eating is great!
Sending some vibes for your little bun! Keep up with the treatments and fuss over him. If he starts eating the poops will come… it can take some time for the medications to work.
(((Vibes for أزرق )))

He made it through the night!
He’s eating hay and veg but no pellets yet. He’s a lot happier and has been hopping around and asking for lots of hugs!
He’s still not drinking and i put ribena in his water is there anything else I can do?
Thanks for all the good vibes <3
Yay! Lovely news!
Hay and veg is great, pellets are as a rule the last thing they get back to after a bout of stasis. The most important food for a bun is hay, and veg adds important hydration, so he doesn’t need pellets, especially not since he is recieving CC.
Ribena might encourage him to drink more, but give him plain water as well. Some buns won’t touch water that tastes “funny”. I’m not sure how sweeteners affect rabbits (from what I could find, Ribena has sweetener instead of added sugar), but many rabbit meds have sweeteners so small amounts shouldn’t be a problem.
I think you should just keep doing what you have been doing, you seem to have had success with that =)
Fantastic news! I am so glad things are going so well.
When mine wasn’t drinking right after her spay the vet suggested some pineapple juice in her water, that got her going
