Our 3 month old lion lop bun stays in a hutch connected to an exercise pen. However we cannot bunny proof the entire home so we only let our bun free roam around the living room whenever we are around. We installed a metal gate barrier between the living room and the hallway to our bedrooms/study room. She goes over to the barrier to explore that gate once in awhile but is most often very content with just buzzing around the living room.
Last Sat, my husband accidentally left the metal gate slightly ajar however and our bun managed to sneak through to our bedroom. That was like bunny heaven for her! There were lots of containers to hop into and she spent almost 20min hiding under our bed. It took us really quite awhile to successfully coax her out of there.
Now ever since she got a taste of what lies on the other side, everyday without fail she now spends a good 10-15min biting at the gate trying to get through. And we can never seem to get her away from the gate. We just have to wait till she’s tired of it and comes back into the living room.
I’m obviously worried that she might end up pulling a tooth out from that relentless and fruitless biting of the gate. Also some paint flecks have started coming out from the gate because of her biting and I don’t know if she may accidentally ingest the paint flakes.
Do you guys have any ideas on how to stop her from continuously biting the gate? Unfortunately bunny proofing the entire house is not really an affordable option for us right now so the gate barrier got to stay..
