When we first got our bun, fluff, we made an exercise pen (~40 sq ft) to keep her in so she wouldn’t eat up the walls. A few months later, we finally have the house bunny proofed so that she can free roam. Whenever whe try to remove the pen, she thumps like crazy until we’re done and then she wont come out of the area. We’ve tried treats, putting her in a different room, leaving the pen and putting her outside of the pen, and even moving the pen itself. All she wants is to stay in the pen. Shes 8 months old now and she has been fixed for 4 months now. We really just want her to be comfortable outside of her pen. Anybody have similar experiences and a cure for the situation?

I think you should keep her area exactly how it is, and just open the pen so she can come and go as she pleases. Then she can slowly explore the area as she feels comfortable (always with the option to return to her safe spot).

It will prob help for her to have lots of hiding boxes around so she feels safer.

We’ve had our bun for 7 months and she is still in the process of slowly expanding the space she’ll explore and feel safe in. It started out with just one rug and under a stool. As time passes and she gets more comfortable she’s very slowly started to explore new spaces. What I have learned with Bunnius is let her take everything at her own speed and that speed is very VERY slow. And don’t mess with her stuff, especially “her” spaces or she will be mad.
