Hey guys I have questions about my two buns, patch with megacolon(if you remember his whole long stasis battle ending up going septic which he is white with black spots so he has the gene for megacolon ) and Penelope my lop. Please if you have a bun with megacolon, please answer. There’s not a lot of research on this so it’s hard to find answers and me and the vet are at a stand still with patch until his results come back Tuesday.

So patches did really good when he came home from the hospital for 2 weeks. He was separated from Penelope for a month. So then he went back for a checkup as he was on cesapride ( which I told this vet and his other vets he had huge poops and pearl string which means megacolon but they blew it off so their ignorance is coming up) so they said he was doing good and to stop cesapride and guess what he went into stasis because his gene doesn’t allow his colon to work properly so I take him to a vet I went to a few times but charges stupid prices so I decide to take him and we go through everything and I put him back on cesapride a few days before because he was in stasis along with force feeds and she diagnosis him with megacolon so we are doing X-rays with a dye to see how long it takes for him to digest on Tuesday ( i forget the name but itl come to me) to see how bad he is. So that first all was 2 weeks ago and since then he doesn’t want to eat on his own. I’ve been force feeding for the past 2 weeks 3 times a day and we’ve tried diff pain meds but it makes his Colon stop and anti nausea meds but it doesn’t help. I just don’t get how he was doing so good before we took him off the meds but now he won’t touch anything, he would eat like crazy at night. His poops have been bigger than ever and only seems to poop at night. He had no teeth issues and everything sounds great, his gut sounds are crazy loud. Blood tests are normal. So my questions are, how long do megacolon buns go without eating daily, how often do they poop a day, what do you do to feed them( he won’t eat any hay or veggies)and he’s even on appetite stimulants and it still doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried all kinds of hay and veggies and fruit but he won’t budge. He did have allot of jelly in his poops so I’ll put him back sucralfate to see if that helps because it did when he first came home. I’m just so wore out and don’t want to have to do this for the rest of his life because I’ll be starting school back up and I want him to be how he was 2 weeks ago.

For Penelope, she went to the same old vet because she didn’t want to eat and she had chronic ear infections and bad teeth so I took her there and they said everything looked great but she had some minor ear buildup which she should have put her on antibiotics(they are very ignorant, my old vets left and they got this intern which knows nothing about bunnies and the old vet knew a lot and even the senior vets didn’t check her work) so she still wasn’t eating into the weekend so I force feed multiple times a day and I took her and patch to the other vet and her teeth look good, no gut sounds but she has fungi and bacteria built up and both ear canals closed because of the pain and infection and she said it’s been there for a long time so poor thing has been in so much pain due to the last vets diagnosis of no ear infection so we put her on silver something for her staphylococcus dermitis in her ear, Tramadol for pain and anti nausea meds. I continue to force feed for the past two weeks since she doesn’t want to eat on her own( litterally nothing) and she’ll poop decent at night but not throughout the day. So the first 3 days she was home she pooped like crazy good but then it all stopped on day 4( called the vet and they said to just keep doing what I’m doing and give her fluids) but no improvement. When patch was in the hospital like 2 months ago she went into stasis because she was so stressed so maybe she never got fully over it. Even now she doesn’t have gut sounds until after I feed her. She is going back Tuesday with Patch for a recheck. I don’t know whatelse to do with her, I stopped her pain meds because maybe it was slowing down her system and there might have been some improvement but she’s always hated hay so I’m just freaking over this whole thing with her and patches. Someone please help me because the past 3 months have been hell with them.
I might have forgot information but it’s a lot that has been going on.
        Thank you

And I forgot to add that I try to give them their old favorites treats like pellets and banana which Carmel and Bunky act like it’s crack but these two just ignore it and push it away so I definitely know something isn’t right with them and I’m about to move in a week into an bigger place too.

Firstly I need to tell you that I know you have asked for very specific help… and I’m sorry I am not someone who can give you those answers to your bunnies’ present illnesses and hardships, so I am sorry. With that said, I just wanted to tell you that it sounds like you and your buns have really had more than a difficult uphill climb recently but even moreso, you have really been a standup mom for them. You all have really endured quite a lot in the last 3 months. I pray that it eases up and they get healing relief for all of you.

Please, if you can, keep us posted. Hoping and praying for healing

Muj, thank you so much ❤️

              Update-
patches, his X-rays results should hopefully come in today. He did not poop from 7:30am till 7 pm at the vet until I took him home.

Penelope- Both ears are swollen shut still so now we are on a harder course of antibiotics. In the ear and orally. She also has sludge and blood in her pee so we are thinking kidney infection. This poor thing is in so much pain no wonder she doesn’t want to eat. I put her back on pain meds and she’s been having her normal sized poops, not a lot but it’s a step in a good direction.
