Hi! So I recently got a baby bunny, about 7 weeks old. I built her a large hutch, too. I accidentally purchased chicken wire, which I learned they can chew through. I have 3 cats. So far she has not been able to escape nor have the cats been able to get in, but I noticed her chewing on the wire. I was wondering if she would still chew through the wire to escape even if my cats are right outside the door? Thanks!

Oh  yes, its really not suitable wire to keep then contained or safe. Other predators can chew through it also or dig under it. If housing outdoors, you’d need to use something stronger lile aviary mesh. If habitat is on soil, you would also need to line the ground with mesh then cover in more soil. To prevent rabbit digging way out or something digging way in.

This site is more dedicated to housing rabbits indoors so there is not a lot of information on outdoor housing in the RABBIT INFO section. This site does offer some good ideas. http://www.therabbithouse.com/

My rabbits actually are indoor rabbits haha! I was just wondering because during the day she is a free roaming rabbit, but at night I like to have my cats in my room and I was afraid of her escaping her hutch.

              Oh, my mistake. Sorry!

I think it will contain her at this age but the wire could cause mouth injuries.

I’m not sure what you could use to prevent her from getting to it until you’re able to replace it. 🤔

Do you plan to introduce her to the cats eventually?

It’s okay! And yes, I have been slowly introducing my cats to her to not be overwhelming. She doesn’t show any signs of stress or fear, and she seems normal around them. That’s why I’m a little scared that if she escapes, she’s going to run right up to the cats. (which I’ve seen her do before, while I was supervising.) And I’ll probably just have to let the cats out of my room until I can replace it. Thank you!
