This is a guide to the strange and wonderful world of PetBunny words and phrases that we use in our posts. Enjoy!
Ballet dancer – Bunny sits with a hind leg stretched forward, bending the head forward to wash toes.
Banking – When the bun hops off the sides of walls or other furniture as he/she curves around the outer edge of the ‘track’ at top speed. (See also ‘Bunny 500’)
Beegull – The proper way to spell ‘beagle’ in the rabbit world. It generally follows the word ‘stoopid’.
Bees-in-the-head – Short, rapid tosses of the head. This is usually followed by an all-out binky festival.
Binkiewhiz – a binky accompanied by a joyous, glittering spray of urine. Popular variation: the Facial Binkiewhiz, performed when bunny slave’s face is level with rabbit’s nether regions.
Binky – A leap in the air, usually with a 180 degrees turn while in the air, and a bewildered expression upon landing.
Bisky – AKA for our intrepid PB’er Laura Atkins.
Boinger – A sudden jump straight up, as if poked in the rear with a carrot.
Bunderful – Bunny wonderful.
Bunnicopter – Bun moves ears from side to side quickly, making ears spin like a helicopter.
Bunnifest Destiny – A bunny’s innate right to take over the entire house.
Bunning around – Doing ‘bunny stuff’.
Bunnitate – Bunny meditate.
Bunnitude – A bun with attitude usually because he/she is feeling neglected or denied some special privilege.
Bunniversary – The anniversary of the date that your bunny adopted you.
Bunny-ness – A personality trait possessed by certain humans, that is characterized by a seeming irresistibility to bunnies, and certain bunny-like behavior patterns. Bunnies are attracted to these humans,and will gravitate towards these humans without much, if any encouragement from the humans. Certain little ‘slaves’ are said to have innate bunny-ness.
Bunnyspeak – The lagomorph language in its imperfect translation by hoomins (humans).
Bunny 500 – A full sprint around the room, usually followed by a flop.
Bunny beans – See ‘bunny berries’.
Bunny berries – Rabbit feces (poop). Also, a favorite snack of PB member ‘Uncle Paul’.
Bunny berry tea – Bunny berries steeped in water, used to fertilize gardens.
Bunny block – When your bunny stands directly in front of you so you cannot take another step.
Bunny boxing – When bunny boxes the air prior to washing his/her face.
Bunny burrito – Wrapping a rabbit in a towel with only the nose sticking out, so that it cannot slash your throat out when you try to trim its toenails.
Bunny Butt – A typical display of disgust where the bunny runs away, usually accompanied by a rear foot kick.This phrase can also mean ‘poopy butt’.
Bunny dancing – See ‘binky’.
Bunny finger – See ‘Bunny Butt’.
Bunnytrip – When your bunny gets in your way but you don’t look down in time to see it! (see Bunny Block)
Bunzedrine – Whatever it is that gives bunnies the energy to zoom around the room 800 times in a row, especially at small hours of the morning.
Bunzodiazepine – noun: the chemical released in the brain from prolonged exposure to bunnies that leads to a feeling of wellness, euphoria, and tranquility.
Car crash – speeding bunny bumps into something, such as the door of a cage, furniture, human leg, etc.
Carefresh – A litter/bedding product (brand name), made of recycled wood pulp products from papermaking.
Chase the bunny – A game where one bunny chases another at top speed.
Cheek chuckies – Stroking the sides of the jaws. This is accompanied by soft purrgrrrs.
Chinning – A bunny behavior that involves rubbing the chin on everything to prove ownership. (The chin has a scent gland)
Chinny chompers – See ‘cheek chuckies’.
Dances-With-Rabbits – circular dance performed by rabbit and rabbit slave in which each partner takes turns circling the other.
Dandelion flowers – A wonderful bunny treat. Also known as ‘Bunny Gold’ and ‘Hare Candy’.
Deadbunny – Buns flops on back with 4 legs in the air.
DeadLop Flop – Manoeuvre accomplished mostly by lop-eared rabbits. Rabbit goes from standing to lying, eyes closed, simulating instant death. (See roadkill)
Debunned – Not having the buns with you.
Embunned – Having the buns with you.
Finger food – When a bunny grabs its slave’s finger, thinking that it’s a treat.
Flonky – Noun: a binky-enriched floppy – primarily a flop, with a binky added in at the end. (eg: my bunny did a flonky); verb: to perform a flonky (eg: my bunny likes to flonky)
Fly ball – A pootie that gets fired out of the litter box.
Fur Shark – A shark in a rabbit suit. Often seen circling feet moments before the big NIP.
Fwop – A great sideways roll, often followed by the smacking of lips.
Gimme Pig – The bunny’s way of seeing a guinea pig (all they scream is gimme, gimme!).
Going all floppers – Falling on the side in a beam of sunlight, and rolling around like a puppy on the warm carpet.
Goop – Laxatone
GP or Gpig – Short for guinea pig, frequent companions to many buns. Often referred to in postings about housing, food, litter.
Happy bunny tooth grind – See. ‘purrgrrr’.
Happy dance – See ‘binky’.
Helicopter ears – A rabbit who has mixed lop/uppy ancestry and so can hold his/her ears out straight sideways for long periods of time.
Henning – The loaf position.
Home Hiking – Exploration of new & or forbidden areas-involves on, up, over & under maneuvers & sniffing that would put a Hoover to shame-commonly followed by a formal tasting of everything in sight.
Hot cross bun – A bunny who does not want to be held. This occurs often in warm, humid weather.
Jellybeans – See ‘bunny berries’.
Justarabbit – The breed name assigned to a rabbit of indeterminate breed.
Leap bunny – Game in which human and bunny face each other. Human has feet slightly apart. Buns hops through human’s legs and turns to face human’s back. Human turns to face bunny and the game continues.
Loaf – Position assumed by rabbits with feet tucked under the body and ears alongside the body. Also, see ‘roll’.
Love bunny – Bump on skull between ears.
Mock Lop – When an uppy-eared rabbit bends one or both of its ears down to the side, either to groom them or when very relaxed.
NIC – Neat Ideas Cubes, an office product used to construct elaborate bunny palaces (cages).
Nose twitches – Expression of happiness and affection.
Oxbow – Online vendor of hay and food, used by many bunny slaves who don’t have local sources of timothy hay.
Percolating – A variation of a binky where the bunny jumps straight up, twists, and then lands in the same position.
Plane Crash – Accident in which leaping bunny lands crashing into something, usually a bean bag chair.
Pod Bunny – A bunny who behaves too good to be a bunny (no chewing, accidents, etc…).
Pootie war – Territorial marking with droppings, sometimes with urine mixed in.
Pooties – See ‘Bunny berries’.
Pulling a Norman – To disappear suddenly, with no trail evident, only to reappear, completely fine, later.
Purrgrrr – The rough equivalent of cat purring, caused by grinding of teeth. Not to be confused with the grinding of teeth caused by pain.
Rabbit raisins – See ‘bunny berries’.
Rainbow Bridge – A special place where our pets wait for us after they pass out of this life.
Roadkill – Position of rabbit repose in which the rabbit rolls on its side, completely flopped over; legs sometimes partly sticking up into the air, causing rabbit to resemble actual roadkkill which has been “cooking rice” for a few days.
Roll – Same as the loaf position, but for small bunnies.
Seductive pose – The bunny lies on one side with both hind legs visibly stretched behind buns. This is an artifice designed to induce a compliment or petting session from a human.
Slave – A human owned by a bunny (or several bunnies).
Smart pellets (or smart pills) – Bunny poop.
Smooshy-face – Covering a rabbit’s entire face with hand to rub cheeks. (See ‘chinny chompers’)
Snausaging – Lounging in a stretched out position, feet underneath, but not tucked.(Anon)
Snuffa-purrgrrr – Purrgrrr combined with rapid breathing. This is a very happy bunny!
Sphinx – Modified loaf position, in which the front legs are stretched straight, toes reaching well beyond the tip of the face; ears usually laid flat against the back; eyes half-closed.
Spintop – A specialized binky, using the front paws as the axial and whirling the body around in mid-air.
Sticky buns – A bunny who stays with you constantly.
Swabe – Bunny-speak for ‘slave’.
Tail on – While petting buns down the back, the tail rising up as your hand approaches it.
Tail stretch – When a rabbit moves its tail away from its body when pooping.
TCFW – Too Cute For Words (used to describe bunny poses/photos)
Teeth chattering – See ‘purrgrrr’.
Toe flick – Flicking the hind foot, often after scratching or picking wax out of the ear.
Treeing – when the shy timid woodland creature (rabbit) manages to chase the fierce savage jungle beast (cat) until the cat has to jump to the top of the entertainment center to escape.
Uppy-downy – A rabbit who has one erect ear and one lop ear.
VELCROBunny – when a bunny climbs on their slave during a vet visit.
Whole ‘nother bunny – This refers to the amount of shed fur collected in the corners of the room in just one day.
Whost – The mysterious vision that rabbits see when they stare at a wall for minutes at a time. This is a contraction of ‘wall’ and ‘ghost’.
Widdo swabe (Little slave) – A bunny slave under the age of 18 who is properly trained to take care of bunnies. In some circles, a bunny slave who is under the age of thirteen.
Whuffing – When a bunny breathes quickly after a hard run or when content.
Wiggle-butt – When bunny moves bottom from side to side as the slave (human) pets them first on one side, then the other side.
Yesterdays News – A litter/bedding product (brand name) made of recycled paper.
