Bunny Vet Visit

Both Lady Penelope & Sir Andy are going to the vet tomorrow to have a routine checkup. I’m afraid they’re going to get stressed out…i don’t want to traumatize the poor lil guys. I got little bunny size kennels for them each to feel secure….wasn’t sure what other tips/tricks/hints/ you more experienced bunny owners might be able to throw my way.  Vet is about 25 minutes away, should they have food & water in their kennels?

Any specific questions that I should go over with the vet?  They both seem pretty healthy, I just wanted to establish a relationship with the vet before doing spay/neuter,etc and wanted to verify Andy’s sex and find out more about him since i just adopted him without anyone being able to provide me with much info.

I find if the carrier is covered they do better. I also put in veggies with high water content so they get fluids without water spilling everywhere. Maybe take water for when you stop at the vet? Put something in the carrier to stop them sliding around and maybe to absorb any accidents but still allow them movement. i.e. dont bundle them up to much because they could get to hot. Good Luck!

i honestly doubt they will eat or drink on the way there or the way back or at the vets but you might put a bit of hay in their carriers. I would say to bring that stuff if you were dropping off but otherwise you are wasting your time and would be making a mess in my opinion.

Do make sure you secure the carriers well though in the car.

The vet should look at the teeth and ears and weigh them and usually will palpate their stomach. Most vets will take a temperature too.

I would ask the vet what he/she recommends as far as diet and as far as check-ups for the future too.

yes, a light blanket or towel for the trip is a great idea in case of accident. bring two extras so you can switch them out if necessary. mine never eat int eh carier, they’re way too stressed, but it doesn’t hurt to bring along some hay like Sarita suggested. make sure to feed them normally up to the trip and have food ready for when they return. initally when i was reading your post i was going to say if they’re bonded to put them in the same carrier and they’ll comfort each other, but i forgot they ARE NOT FIXED!!! so definitely you need two carriers! lol.

something to think about for the future, can they both fit in one carrier? if they can’t comfortable both fit in one carrier for once they are bonded, i would take back one carrier today and get the next size up. i have two carriers, one small, one medium, one is for single bunny trips, one is for dual bunny trips. this way you’re not wasting money on something you won’t be able to use later.

Thank you for your tips! I’m trying to find my receipt to exchange one of the kennels for the next size up as Beka27 suggested. I put towels in the bottom and gave them a big collard green leaf and Andy actually ate quite a bit! Penelope not so much! Some exciting news!!!! Andy is actually a girl! I had been told that she was a boy! So…i was thinking about keeping the same name but maybe spelling it “Andi”…..i don’t know… For those of you that have seen her pics (she’s the lionhead/mix?) any suggestions for sweet girl names?

That’s great, no accidental pregnancy fears now! Lady Penelope and Lady Andy. It’s a pretty unisex name these days. Andi works, or Andrea.

Else you could go with something similar sounding: Mandi, Candi, Sandi ???

congrats on your new baby girl! lol! it happens more than you realize! i love the name Andi for a girl! or you could tweak it and make it Annie… Penelope and Annie has a ring to it…
